Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Printer messages: HP OfficeJet Enterprise printers check each cartridge's chip. After installing remanufactured cartridges you may see a message that non-HP or used supplies are installed; select OK or Continue to keep printing. Ink-level estimates may differ from those of new original cartridges.
Installation: Open the cartridge door, remove the old cartridge and slide each new cartridge into its matching color slot until it clicks. If a cartridge isn't recognized, remove it, wipe the chip contacts with a dry lint-free cloth and reinsert it.
Still stuck? See our guide to fixing a cartridge that isn't recognized or contact us and we'll make it right.
Remanufactured vs. Compatible vs. Original
Original (OEM) cartridges are new from the printer brand and cost the most. Remanufactured cartridges, like this one, start as genuine original shells that are cleaned, refilled with high-quality ink and print-tested, so they fit and communicate like the original at a fraction of the price. Compatible cartridges are built new by a third party with their own chip. Castle Ink sells remanufactured inkjet cartridges and compatible (newly manufactured) toner.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pages do HP 980 cartridges print?
About 10,000 pages for black (D8J10A) and about 6,600 pages each for cyan (D8J07A), magenta (D8J08A) and yellow (D8J09A), based on HP's ratings for the original cartridges at roughly 5% coverage.
Which printers use HP 980 ink?
HP OfficeJet Enterprise Color X555dn and X555xh, and OfficeJet Enterprise Color MFP X585dn, X585f and Flow MFP X585z.
Is HP 980 the same as HP 981?
No. HP 981 cartridges are for the PageWide Enterprise Color 556 and MFP 586 and won't fit the X555 or X585.
Can I buy just one color?
Yes. Each HP 980 color is also sold individually; see Other Options above.
Will this void my printer warranty?
No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer can't void your printer warranty just because you used a third-party or remanufactured supply. If a non-original supply directly caused damage, that specific repair might not be covered.
How long can I store them?
Store them sealed, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, and use them within about 24 months for best results. Once opened, install them promptly.
When will my order ship?
Orders placed by 4 PM ET, Monday through Friday, ship the same business day from Long Island, NY, by USPS (2–5 business days). Expedited 1–2 day delivery is available at checkout, and shipping is free on orders over $50.
