Konica Minolta Releases Universal Printer Driver (UPD)
According to a release issued by PR Web, Konica Minolta has developed a universal printer driver (UPD) for networked printers. With a single, universal interface (UI) to boot, the lives of network administrators should be made easier than ever before. This UPD removes the need for installation of separate drivers for each device by combining all the integrated tasks into its driver core. Further, it enables operators to easily add new devices to the current configuration so as to not interfere with workflow and productivity. The UI offers individuals the same functionality across the network for layout, finishing, and quality for each device.
So how does it work then? The UPD combines multiple drivers comprised of new and legacy drivers from several different manufacturers. Individual Child Drivers are linked to model-specific Konica Minolta MFPs and Common Child Drivers link to other Konica Minolta models and 3rd-party devices. The latest MFPs and desktop printers will have a full complement of printer functionality while older Konica models and 3rd-party devices will have basic functionality. Every device will benefit from the automatic detection and identification the UPD will provide.
The UPD is also the only driver which includes the capability of searching with a filter for feature sets. For instance, attributes such as “color” or “duplex printing” can be typed into the search box and it will pull up all devices that offer the respective capabilities.
