• 702 vs. 252: the WorkForce WF-3620 and WF-3640 look similar but use Epson 252XL, not 702.
• 702 vs. 802: the WorkForce Pro WF-4720, WF-4730 and WF-4740 use Epson 802XL, not 702.
• Outside North America: 702/702XL is the U.S. and Canada cartridge number. Epson cartridges are region-coded, so a WF-3720 bought overseas may not accept these.

Chips, Printer Messages & Installation

Installing: with the printer on, lift the scanner unit and let the cartridge holder move to the replacement position. Shake the new cartridge gently a few times, take it out of the bag and peel off the yellow tape without touching the green chip. Squeeze the tab on the empty cartridge to lift it out, press the new one into the matching color slot until it clicks, and close the scanner. The printer charges ink for a minute or two.

"Cartridge cannot be recognized": press the cartridge down firmly until it clicks, check that the tape is fully off and restart the printer. Keep automatic firmware updates turned off, since Epson updates have blocked some non-Epson-filled cartridges in the past.

Only the amount of ink. Standard 702 is rated at 350 pages black and 300 per color; 702XL at 1,100 and 950. Both fit the same slots in the same three printers.

No. The WF-3620 and WF-3640 use Epson 252, and the WF-4720, WF-4730 and WF-4740 use Epson 802.

Can I mix these with genuine Epson cartridges?
