In March 2025 Brother publicly stated that its firmware updates do not block third-party ink and toner. If a message about a non-genuine supply appears, choose OK or Continue to keep printing. Gently rock the cartridge side to side to spread the toner, remove the orange protective cover, and slide it into the DR229CL unit until it locks.
