Rollo Labels: Genuine Rollo vs. Low-Cost Compatible Labels (2026 Guide)

Quick answer: Rollo printers are not locked to Rollo-brand labels. Any direct thermal label between about 1.57" and 4.1" wide will print, whether it comes as a fanfold stack or a roll, and the printer detects the label size automatically. No ink, toner or ribbon is ever needed.

Genuine Rollo 4x6 labels cost about 4¢ a label ($19.99 for 500). Top-rated compatible 4x6 labels on Amazon run about 1.7¢–2¢ a label and work the same way in a Rollo.

What Labels Work in a Rollo Printer?

Every Rollo label printer, including the original USB model and the Rollo Wireless, is a 203 dpi direct thermal printer. That tells you almost everything about which labels fit:

  • Direct thermal labels only. The printer darkens a heat-sensitive coating on the label. Thermal transfer labels (the kind that need a ribbon) and plain sticker paper will come out blank.
  • Width from about 1.57" to 4.1". That covers 4x6 shipping labels, 4x2 and 4x3 labels, 2.25x1.25 barcode labels, 2x1 labels and 2" circles. Labels narrower than about 1.57", such as 1.25" x 1" price labels fed narrow side first, are too small for the feed guides.
  • Any brand. Rollo does not chip or lock its labels. Rollo, MUNBYN, 9527 Product, LLIKED and other direct thermal labels all print the same way.
  • Fanfold or roll. Fanfold stacks sit behind the printer and feed through the back slot. Rolls need a roll holder behind the printer (Rollo sells one, and most third-party holders fit).
  • Automatic size detection. Rollo printers calibrate to the label gap on their own when you load a new size, so switching from 4x6 shipping labels to 2x1 barcodes takes seconds.

Our take: Rollo-brand labels are good labels, but nothing about the printer requires them. If you ship a few hundred packages a month, a well-reviewed compatible 4x6 fanfold cuts your label cost roughly in half. Stick to direct thermal labels with strong reviews, permanent adhesive and clean perforations, and avoid anything labeled "thermal transfer."

Fanfold vs. Roll Labels for a Rollo

  • Fanfold is the easiest choice for a Rollo. The stack sits flat behind the printer, there is no holder to buy, and labels feed straight without curling. Most Rollo owners use fanfold for 4x6 shipping labels.
  • Rolls need a roll holder behind the printer, but they are the only way to buy small labels like 2x1 barcodes and 2" circles. A 4x6 roll holds about 250–500 labels depending on the core size.

Rollo Labels: Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use Rollo-brand labels in a Rollo printer?

No. Rollo printers work with any direct thermal label in the supported width range, and Rollo markets its printers as working with any direct thermal label. There is no chip or lock.

Why is my Rollo printing blank labels?

The two most common causes are thermal transfer labels (which need a ribbon a Rollo doesn't have) and a roll loaded upside down so the coated side faces away from the printhead. Scratch the label with a fingernail: the coated side turns gray.

Can a Rollo print 2.25 x 1.25 FNSKU labels for Amazon FBA?

Yes. 2.25" x 1.25" and 2" x 1" labels are both within the Rollo's width range and are the standard sizes for FNSKU barcodes.

Can I use Zebra labels in a Rollo?

Yes, as long as they are direct thermal. Zebra direct thermal labels such as Z-Perform 1000D and 2000D fit a Rollo. Zebra thermal transfer labels (the "T" versions) do not. See our Zebra labels guide for details.

Can I use DYMO labels in a Rollo?

Only DYMO's 4x6 shipping labels are close enough in size to be worth trying. Smaller DYMO address labels are on a narrow DYMO-specific roll and are not a good fit.

How long do Rollo labels last?

Like all direct thermal labels, they stay readable for months indoors, which is far longer than a shipping label needs. Heat, sunlight and friction speed up fading.
