Can I mix standard and high-yield cartridges?
Yes. Each cartridge is read separately, so any mix of 702 and 702XL works.
What other printers use Epson 702 ink?
702/702XL also fits the WF-3730, and WF-3733. If you own more than one, a single stock of cartridges covers them all.
Are compatible 702XL cartridges safe for the WF-3720?
They fit, and using them doesn't by itself void your warranty under U.S. law. The 702 cartridges are chipped, and we could not confirm how Epson firmware on the WF-3720 treats non-Epson chips, so turning off automatic firmware updates is a sensible precaution with any non-Epson cartridge. How do I replace the ink in the WF-3720?
Turn the printer on and lift the scanner unit. When the carriage stops, squeeze the tab on the empty cartridge and lift it out. Shake the new cartridge gently, remove only the yellow tape, and press it into its slot until it clicks. Close the scanner unit and let the printer charge the ink. Why won't the WF-3720 recognize a cartridge?
Reseat it firmly until it clicks, make sure the yellow tape is fully removed, and wipe the chip with a dry lint-free cloth. Turn the printer off for a minute. I've seen the WF-3720 listed with Epson 220 cartridges. Which is right?
702 / 702XL. Epson's own 220XL listing covers the WF-2630, WF-2650, WF-2660, WF-2750, WF-2760 and XP-320, XP-420 and XP-424, not the WF-3720. Epson 252 (WF-3640, WF-7710, WF-7720) doesn't fit either. Match the number on your current cartridge.
Can it print banners or long pages?
Yes. Epson lists paper sizes up to 8.5 x 47.2 inches, so it can print long banner-style pages.
Can I connect it to a network by cable, or print from my phone?
Both. It has Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct and USB, plus NFC tap-to-print for phones that support it.
How much paper does it hold, and how fast is it?
The tray holds 250 sheets of plain paper (or 20 photo sheets or 10 envelopes). Epson rates it at 20 pages per minute black and 10 color (ISO), and 10 black / 7 color when printing two-sided.
Is the WF-3720 still sold, and what replaced it?
No, Epson lists it as discontinued. Its listed replacement is the WorkForce Pro WF-3820, which uses different ink, so your 702 cartridges won't carry over to it.
WorkForce Pro WF-3720 quirks worth knowing
- Only three printers take Epson 702: the WF-3720, WF-3730 and WF-3733. Most cartridges sold for other WorkForce models won't fit, even when the model numbers look close.
- Epson rates the duty cycle at up to 20,000 pages a month but recommends no more than about 800. If you regularly print more than that, a printer built for higher volume will hold up better.
- The fax keeps up to 100 pages in memory and stores 60 speed dials, which is more than many home-office all-in-ones in this class.
- The XL step is bigger here than on many Epson cartridges: about 1,100 vs 350 pages for black and 950 vs 300 for each color, roughly three times the pages.
