Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Installing: open the printer's top cover, lift out the empty cartridge, then rock the new cartridge gently side to side five or six times to spread the toner. Pull the sealing tape straight out by its tab, slide the cartridge into the guides until it seats and close the cover.
No chip to reset: these LaserWriter printers do not read chips. If the toner-low light stays on after a change, power the printer off and on once.
Streaks or faint print: rock the cartridge again and print a few pages. The drum is built into this cartridge, so a new cartridge also renews the drum.

Original (OEM) toner is new from the printer brand and costs the most. Compatible toner, like this cartridge, is newly manufactured by a third party to the original's size and page-yield specifications, so it drops into the same slot at a much lower price.
