How do I replace the ink in the XP-7100?
Turn the printer on and lift the scanner unit. When the carriage stops, squeeze the tab on the empty cartridge and lift it out. Shake the new cartridge gently, remove only the yellow tape, and press it into its slot until it clicks. Close the scanner unit and let the printer charge the ink. Why won't the XP-7100 recognize a cartridge?
Reseat it firmly until it clicks, make sure the yellow tape is fully removed, and wipe the chip with a dry lint-free cloth. Turn the printer off for a minute. After a firmware update my non-Epson cartridges say "not recognized". What can I do?
Epson's published answer is to switch to genuine cartridges; it offers no way to roll the update back. To avoid this, turn off automatic firmware updates in the printer's settings and decline update prompts in Epson's software.
Can I use it for sublimation printing?
No. It uses cartridge-based Claria dye inks. Sublimation needs dedicated inks, usually in an EcoTank model.
Can my phone print to it without home Wi-Fi?
Yes, through Wi-Fi Direct, which connects the phone to the printer without a router. There is no Bluetooth.
Is there a limit on copies?
Yes, 99 copies per job. Larger runs have to be split into separate jobs.
Can it print on CDs and DVDs?
Yes. It prints directly onto inkjet-printable discs, using the tray that comes in the box.
XP-7100 quirks worth knowing
- The control panel and output tray are motorized: the panel tilts up at power-on and the tray slides out by itself when a print starts.
- There are two paper cassettes, 100 sheets of plain paper plus a separate 20-sheet photo cassette, and a rear slot for single sheets.
- Key beeps can only be silenced through Quiet Mode, which also slows printing.
- An "ink pad at end of service life" message means the internal waste-ink pads are full. It needs a service visit or Epson's pad-replacement program; new cartridges won't clear it.
