Epson 312 / 312XL Ink: Common Questions

What is the difference between Epson 312 and 312XL?

312XL is the high-yield size: Epson rates 312XL black at about 500 pages and each 312XL color at about 830 pages, roughly double the standard 312. Both sizes fit the same slot. We carry the 312XL size.

Which printers use Epson 312 ink?

Epson Expression Photo XP-8500, XP-8600, XP-8700 and Expression Photo HD XP-15000. The XP-15000 takes only the black, cyan, magenta and yellow, plus Epson 314XL gray and red. Our Find Ink by Printer page has a guide for each model.

Will remanufactured Epson 312XL cartridges work in my printer?

Yes. Each cartridge is a genuine Epson shell with its original chip, cleaned, refilled and print-tested, so it installs like an original. Keep automatic firmware updates off, since Epson updates have blocked third-party chips. If a cartridge from us isn't recognized, contact us and we'll replace or refund it under our 1-year guarantee.

Do I need all six colors?

The XP-8500, XP-8600 and XP-8700 use all six (black, cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan, light magenta) and will not print until each slot has a cartridge. The XP-15000 uses the four standard colors plus 314XL gray and red.
