Chips, Printer Messages & Installation

Installing: open the printer cover and take out the drum for the color you are replacing (on the HL-4040/MFC-9440 series the four drums slide out together in one drawer). Move the toner cartridge from the old drum into the new one until it clicks, slide the green corona wire tab back and forth a few times, and put the drum back in its color position.

Reset the drum counter: after installing a new drum, reset that color's drum counter from the printer's menu (the exact steps vary by model). If you skip this, the "Replace Drum" message stays on.

Drum vs. toner: this is the drum only. It works with TN221 or TN225 toner and lasts through several toner cartridges.
