Page yields are the manufacturer's rating for the matching original cartridge, measured at roughly 5% page coverage under ISO/IEC 19752 or 19798 testing. Your results will vary with what you print.

Don't mix these up: Brother lists TN780 (super high yield) for the HL-6180DW and MFC-8950DW. The HL-5450DN, HL-5470DW, MFC-8510DN, MFC-8710DW, MFC-8910DW and DCP-8110/8150/8155 are sold with TN720 and TN750. All use the DR720 drum.

Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Installing: open the front cover and lift out the drum unit with the toner attached. Push down the green lock lever to release the empty toner from the DR720 drum, then rock the new toner gently side to side and remove its protective cover. Click it into the drum until the lever lifts, slide the corona wire tab back and forth a few times to clean it, and reinstall the assembly.
"Replace Toner" after a new cartridge: make sure the cartridge is fully clicked into the drum and the cover is closed. Brother printers read toner level with a sensor, so a firmly seated cartridge clears the message.
Toner vs. drum: this is the toner only. The DR720 drum is a separate part that lasts through several toner cartridges; replace it when the printer shows "Replace Drum" or prints get spotty.

Compatible vs. Remanufactured vs. Original
Original (OEM) toner is new from the printer brand and costs the most. Compatible toner, like this cartridge, is newly manufactured by a third party to the original's size, chip and page-yield specifications, so it drops into the same slot at a much lower price. Remanufactured toner is an emptied original cartridge that has been rebuilt and refilled. Castle Ink sells compatible (newly manufactured) toner and remanufactured inkjet cartridges.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pages does the Brother TN780 black print?
About 12,000 pages, based on Brother's rating for the original TN780 at roughly 5% coverage.
Can I use TN750 or TN720 instead?
Yes. The HL-6180DW and MFC-8950DW also take TN750 (about 8,000 pages) and TN720 (about 3,000). All three fit the same slot on the DR720 drum. TN780 holds the most toner, so it costs the least per page.
Will TN780 work in my HL-5470DW or MFC-8710DW?
Brother does not list TN780 for those printers. The HL-5450DN, HL-5470DW, MFC-8510DN, MFC-8710DW, MFC-8910DW and DCP-8110DN/8150DN/8155DN take TN720 or TN750, and TN750 is the high-yield choice for them.
Does it have a chip?
No. Brother TN780 cartridges do not use a chip, so there is nothing to transfer. The printer detects a new cartridge when it is clicked into the drum.
How long does the DR720 drum last?
About 30,000 pages, based on Brother's rating, so one drum outlasts two or three TN780 cartridges.
Will this void my printer warranty?
No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer can't void your printer warranty just because you used a third-party or remanufactured supply. If a non-original supply directly caused damage, that specific repair might not be covered.
How long can I store it?
Sealed toner keeps for about two years at room temperature. Keep it in its bag, away from heat and direct sunlight, and store it flat.
When will my order ship?
Orders placed by 4 PM ET, Monday through Friday, ship the same business day from Long Island, NY, by USPS (2–5 business days). Expedited 1–2 day delivery is available at checkout, and shipping is free on orders over $50.
