Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Installing: open the ink cartridge cover, lift out the empty cartridge and gently shake the new one before pushing it into the matching color slot until it seats. Close the cover and wait for the printer to finish checking the ink.
Non-HP supply messages: DesignJet printers display a notice when a refilled or non-HP cartridge is installed. Confirm the message on the front panel to keep printing. If a cartridge is not detected, reseat it and check the chip contacts are clean.
Printheads are separate: DesignJet printheads are replaced on their own schedule, not with each ink cartridge. If a color is missing after a new cartridge, run the printhead cleaning from the front panel.

Do I need both matte black and photo black?
Yes. The printer keeps both installed and switches between them: matte black for uncoated, bond and fine-art papers, photo black for glossy and satin media.
Do the 130 ml and 300 ml HP 728 cartridges fit the same slot?
Yes. The 300 ml version simply lasts longer and costs less per milliliter.
Does it include a printhead?
No. The T730 and T830 use the separate HP 729 printhead (F9J81A), which is replaced on its own schedule.
Will this void my printer warranty?
No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer can't void your printer warranty just because you used a third-party or remanufactured supply. If a non-original supply directly caused damage, that specific repair might not be covered.
How long can I store it?
Store it sealed, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, and use it within about 24 months for best results. Once opened, install it promptly.
