Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Installing: with the printer on, open the ink access door and wait for the carriage to stop. Remove the empty cartridge, unwrap the new one, pull off any protective tape without touching the copper contacts, and push it into the matching slot until it clicks. Close the door and let the printer finish its startup routine.
Ink level messages: the printer may show a "used" or "non-HP" cartridge notice, or an ink gauge that reads low or "?". Press OK to continue and judge by print quality, not the gauge.
Printheads are separate: these printers use replaceable printheads that last through many ink cartridges. If a color is missing after a new cartridge, run the printhead cleaning or alignment from the printer menu.
