Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Installing: open the cartridge door on the side of the printer, lift out the old cartridge and pull the protective tape off the new one without touching the copper contacts. Slide it in, contacts first, until it clicks, then close the door. The printer prints an alignment page.
Ink level messages: remanufactured HP cartridges reuse the original HP chip, so the printer may show a "used" or "non-HP" cartridge notice, or an ink gauge that reads low or "?". Press OK to continue and judge by print quality, not the gauge.
Printhead built in: the printhead is part of the cartridge. If photos show banding, run the cleaning routine from the printer's Tools menu.
