Chips, Printer Messages & Installation

Installing: open the front or side door, pull out the empty cartridge by its handle, then shake the new cartridge gently side to side five or six times. Remove the protective sheet, slide the cartridge into the matching color slot until it locks and close the door.

Supply messages: the printer may show a "non-genuine toner" or "toner not supported" notice. Press OK to keep printing. Turning off automatic firmware updates helps keep compatible chips working.

Streaks or faint print: shake the cartridge again and run the cleaning page or color registration from the printer menu. The imaging unit is separate on these printers and lasts much longer than the toner.
