How to Print Multiple PDFs at Once (Windows 11, Mac, Adobe Acrobat & More)

Quick answer: Yes. On Windows 10 or 11, select up to 15 PDFs in File Explorer, right-click, and choose Print (on Windows 11, click Show more options first). On a Mac, drag the PDFs onto your printer's Dock icon. If you need the files in a set order, on one page, or double-sided, combine them into one PDF first (Acrobat's Combine Files or the Mac's Quick Actions > Create PDF) and print that single file.

This guide is for anyone with a stack of invoices, forms, or school handouts who doesn't want to open and print each file by hand. The big gotcha: batch printing sends each PDF as a separate job, so order and two-sided layout aren't guaranteed. If a single PDF is giving you trouble, start with how to print a PDF (and fix one that won't print). For anything else, the printer troubleshooting center covers the common problems.

Five-step diagram showing how to print multiple PDFs from Windows 11 File Explorer: gather files, select 15 or fewer, right-click, choose Show more options, then Print and check the queue.
The File Explorer method works on Windows 10 and 11 for up to 15 PDFs at a time.

Can you print multiple PDFs at once?

Yes. Windows and macOS can both send a batch of PDFs to the printer without you opening each one, and Adobe Acrobat can merge them into one file first. Phones and Chromebooks mostly print one PDF at a time.

There are really two approaches:

  • Batch send. Select the files and print them together. Each PDF becomes its own print job. It's fast, but the order can shuffle.
  • Merge, then print. Combine the PDFs into one document and print it once. It takes a minute longer, but you control the order, the layout, and the page count.

Use batch send for a quick pile of unrelated files. Use merge-then-print when the output has to come out as a packet.

How do you print multiple PDFs at once on Windows 11 and Windows 10?

Select the PDFs in File Explorer, right-click the selection, and choose Print. On Windows 11, click Show more options first to reach the full menu. Each file goes to your default printer.

  1. Move the PDFs into one folder. Explorer can only multi-select files in the same location.
  2. Set the printer you want as the default. Batch printing skips the print dialog, so the files go straight to the default printer.
  3. Select the files. Hold Ctrl and click each one, or click the first file and Shift+click the last.
  4. Right-click any selected file. On Windows 11, choose Show more options. Microsoft notes that the streamlined Windows 11 menu hides some older commands there. On Windows 10, the full menu appears right away.
  5. Click Print.

Which PDF app does the printing?

Explorer hands each file to your default PDF app, which opens and prints it. If Print doesn't appear even with a few files selected, your default PDF app may not offer a print command in Explorer. Many people fix this by making Adobe Acrobat Reader the default. Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps, search for .pdf, and pick the app. The app may open a window for each file while it works. Leave it alone until the jobs show up in the queue.

Why does the Print option disappear when you select more than 15 PDFs?

By design, Windows Explorer removes Open, Print, and Edit from the right-click menu when more than 15 files are selected. Microsoft built this in so you don't launch dozens of files by accident.

The safe workaround: print in batches of 15 or fewer. Select files 1 to 15, print, wait for them to reach the queue, then select the next group. Even better for big jobs, merge the PDFs into one file (see the Acrobat and Mac sections below) and print that.

The registry option, with caution. Microsoft documents a per-user setting called MultipleInvokePromptMinimum (a DWORD under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer). The default is 15. Raising it changes how many files can be selected before those commands disappear. You then need to sign out and back in, or restart Explorer. Keep these points in mind:

  • Microsoft recommends raising it only to a reasonable number, and only where you really need it.
  • Editing the registry incorrectly can cause problems. Back it up first, and skip this on a work PC unless IT approves.
  • Printing 50 files this way opens 50 copies of your PDF app. That's often what jams the queue. Merging first is usually the better fix.

How do you print multiple PDFs at once on a Mac?

The quickest way is to add your printer to the Dock, then drag the selected PDFs onto its icon. To control the order, combine the files with Quick Actions > Create PDF in Finder and print the result.

Drag PDFs onto the printer

  1. Print any document so the printer's queue window opens (on the newest macOS this app is called Print Center).
  2. In that window's menu bar, choose Printer > Add to Dock.
  3. In Finder, select your PDFs (Command+click each one).
  4. Drag them onto the printer icon in the Dock. Apple notes this works for PDFs and image files.

Combine them first with Quick Actions

  1. In Finder, click the PDFs in the order you want them printed. Apple says the files appear in the new PDF in the order you selected them.
  2. Control-click the selection and choose Quick Actions > Create PDF.
  3. Open the new PDF in Preview and press Command-P to print it as one job.

You can also merge in Preview. Choose View > Thumbnails, then drag pages or whole PDFs into the sidebar. Preview saves changes automatically, so Apple suggests using File > Duplicate first to keep your originals.

How do you batch print PDFs in Adobe Acrobat?

In paid Acrobat (Pro or Standard), use Combine Files to merge the PDFs into one document, then print it once. The free Acrobat Reader can't combine files, so in Reader you print each PDF separately or use the Windows batch method above.

  1. Open Acrobat and select the Combine Files tool (from the Tools area or the shortcut in the right pane).
  2. Click Add Files, or drag the PDFs into the window.
  3. Drag the thumbnails into the order you want. You can expand a multi-page file to move single pages.
  4. Click Combine. Acrobat creates a new file, for example Binder1.pdf.
  5. Press Ctrl+P (Windows) or Command-P (Mac) and print.

Acrobat Pro also has an Action Wizard that runs a saved set of steps on many files. It's worth exploring for repeat office work, but for most people, Combine Files plus one print is simpler and easier to check.

How do you print multiple PDFs in a specific order?

Combine the PDFs into one file in the order you want, then print that file. Batch printing from Explorer or the Dock sends separate jobs, and they don't always finish in the order you selected.

  • Best: merge first with Acrobat's Combine Files or the Mac's Quick Actions > Create PDF, and arrange the order there.
  • Quick fix: rename the files with number prefixes such as 01-cover.pdf, 02-invoice.pdf, 03-receipt.pdf. Then sort by name and print in small batches. This makes the order easy to check, but it still isn't guaranteed.
  • Safest for short stacks: print one file, wait for it to finish, then print the next.

How do you print multiple PDFs on one page?

Merge the PDFs into one file, then use the Multiple or Pages per Sheet setting in the print dialog. Print settings apply within a single document, so combining first is what lets pages from different files share a sheet.

In Acrobat or Acrobat Reader

  1. Open the combined PDF and press Ctrl+P or Command-P.
  2. In the page sizing and handling options, click Multiple.
  3. Choose a number from Pages per sheet (2 or 4 is readable for most documents).
  4. Set Page order if you want pages to run across rows or down columns, then click Print.

On a Mac in Preview

  1. Choose File > Print.
  2. Click Layout in the print dialog.
  3. Pick a number from the Pages per Sheet menu, then click Print.

Printing 2 or 4 pages per sheet also cuts paper and ink use. For more ways to stretch a cartridge, see printer settings explained: grayscale, monochrome, and draft mode. Want photos instead of PDFs? Here's how to print multiple pictures on one page.

How do you print multiple PDFs double-sided without files running into each other?

Print each PDF as its own job with two-sided turned on, or add a blank page to the end of any PDF with an odd page count before you combine them. Otherwise the next file starts on the back of the previous one.

Here's why it happens. A 3-page PDF ends on the front of its second sheet. In a combined file, page 1 of the next PDF lands on the back of that sheet. When you separate the stack, two documents share a sheet.

  • Batch printing (Explorer or Dock): set two-sided as the default in your printer's preferences first, because batch printing skips the print dialog. Each file is a separate job, so each starts on a fresh sheet.
  • Combined file: check the page count of each PDF before merging. Add a blank page after any file with an odd count. In Acrobat Combine Files you can drag a one-page blank PDF into place.

Can you print multiple PDFs at once from a Chromebook, iPhone or Android?

Mostly no. ChromeOS, iOS, and Android print one open file at a time. The workaround is to merge the PDFs into one file first, then print that file once.

  • Chromebook: open each PDF and press Ctrl+P. To print a set in one go, merge them on a Windows PC or Mac first, or with a PDF tool you trust, then print the single file. Setup help: how to print from a Chromebook.
  • iPhone and iPad: open a PDF, tap Share, then Print. Some versions of the Files app can combine selected files into one PDF, and PDF apps such as Acrobat can merge files with a subscription.
  • Android: open each PDF in Drive or your PDF viewer and use the Print option in its menu. Merge first with a PDF app if you need one job.

Before you upload sensitive files to a free online merging site, think about privacy. Tax and medical forms are better merged on your own computer. For more phone printing help, see how to print from your phone.

Why are only some of my PDFs printing, or printing out of order?

Usually the print queue choked on too many jobs at once, the PDF app closed before every file was sent, or the files reached the printer in a different order than you selected them. Smaller batches and merging first fix most cases.

  • Stuck or overloaded queue. Open the print queue and look for an error or a job that won't move. Clear it, then restart the spooler. See how to cancel a print job and how to restart the print spooler.
  • Default app problems. If your PDF app crashes or closes early, some files never reach the queue. Try a different default PDF app, or print in groups of 5 to 10.
  • Too many files. More than 15 selected files hides the Print command, and big batches strain both the app and the spooler. Merge into one PDF instead.
  • Order shuffles. Large files take longer to process, so a small file selected later can finish first. Merge first, or use number prefixes and print in small groups.
  • A file is locked. Some PDFs block printing. In Acrobat, check File > Properties > Security.
  • Printer ran dry partway. Long batches are where low ink shows up. If pages come out faint or streaky halfway through, check your ink levels before reprinting.

If nothing prints at all, work through why your printer is not printing at all. And if a big print run is about to drain your cartridges, you can find ink for your printer at Castle Ink. Orders placed by 4 PM ET on weekdays ship the same business day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose a different printer when printing multiple PDFs from File Explorer?

Not in the right-click method. It skips the print dialog and sends every file to your default printer. Change the default printer in Windows Settings before you print, then switch it back afterward.

Can I print multiple PDF attachments from an email at once?

The reliable way is to save all the attachments to one folder, then select them in File Explorer or Finder and print them as a batch. Email apps generally print the message body or open attachments one at a time.

How do I print multiple copies of several PDFs?

Merge the PDFs into one file, open it, and set the number of copies in the print dialog. Turn on collation so each copy prints as a complete set instead of grouping all the page 1s together.

Can I save multiple PDFs as one PDF without Acrobat on Windows?

Windows has no built-in merge tool. You can use a desktop PDF editor or a trusted online tool. Microsoft Print to PDF saves one document at a time, so it won't merge separate files on its own. Learn more in our guide to Microsoft Print to PDF.
