Quick answer: The Brother MFC-J4510DW uses four separate cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. You can use high-yield LC103 cartridges (about 600 pages) or the super high-yield LC107 black and LC105 colors (about 1,200 pages each). Castle Ink stocks remanufactured LC107 Black, LC105 Cyan, LC105 Magenta, LC105 Yellow and an LC107 / LC105 4-pack, plus LC103 singles and an LC103 4-pack.

It shares the LC103 with the MFC-J4410DW, MFC-J470DW, MFC-J870DW and MFC-J285DW, and the LC105 and LC107 with the MFC-J4410DW. It does not take the smaller LC101, which some sellers list next to the LC103. Brother lists the LC101 only for the DCP-J152W and the MFC-J245, J285DW, J450DW, J470DW, J475DW, J650DW, J870DW and J875DW.

Discontinued. Brother Canada lists the MFC-J4510DW as discontinued. It dates from 2012, and Germany's Computerwoche reviewed it in March 2013 at a list price of €249. Yields are Brother's ISO/IEC 24711 figures. There is no LC105 black and no LC107 color: the super high-yield set is LC107 black with LC105 cyan, magenta and yellow. Both sizes fit the same slots, so you can mix them color by color.

Are LC105 and LC107 Cartridges Worth It?

Yes. They hold twice the ink of the LC103. On October 21, 2026, Brother's own store listed the LC107 black at $30.49 (about 2.5¢ a page) and the LC105 cyan at $24.29 (about 2¢ a page), both out of stock. 4inkjets had the LC107 black at $33.99 (about 2.8¢ a page) and the LC105 cyan at $24.99 (about 2.1¢), with the LC105 magenta and yellow backordered. By comparison Brother listed the smaller LC103 black at $26.49, about 4.4¢ a page. Our remanufactured LC107 and LC105 singles are $8.99 each, about 0.75¢ a page, or $30.99 for the 4-pack.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the Brother MFC-J4510DW?

  1. Open the ink cartridge cover on the front of the machine.
  2. Press the lock-release lever for the color shown on the display and take that cartridge out.
  3. Unpack the new cartridge. Turn the green lever on the orange protective cap until it clicks to release the seal, then pull the cap off. Don't touch the area under the cap.
  4. Slide the cartridge in the direction of the arrow on its label, then push gently on the back, marked PUSH, until it locks.
  5. Close the cover. The machine resets the ink level for that color on its own.

Why does the paper go in sideways?

The print head runs across the long edge of the page, so letter paper loads in landscape orientation. That is how Brother kept the printer compact while still printing quickly. It is normal.

How do I print on 11 x 17 paper?

Feed it one sheet at a time through the manual feed slot. The main tray holds letter-size and smaller paper, so the larger sizes go through the slot.

Should I buy LC103 or the LC105 and LC107?

If you print regularly, the LC105 and LC107. They hold about 1,200 pages each against about 600 for the LC103, so you change cartridges half as often and pay less per page.

The screen says Ink Absorber Full. Can I fix it?

That message means the pads that catch ink from cleaning cycles are full. Brother says the box has to be replaced through its customer service and that this isn't covered by warranty.
