What Ink Does the Brother MFC-J4710DW Use?

Quick answer: The Brother MFC-J4710DW uses four separate cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. You can use high-yield LC103, or super high-yield LC107 black with LC105 colors. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured LC107 Black, LC105 Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, a super high-yield 4-pack, plus LC103 singles and a 4-pack.

The MFC-J4710DW is the bigger sibling of the MFC-J4410DW. It takes the same ink but adds a second paper tray, a larger touchscreen and two-sided scanning. LC103 also fits the MFC-J470DW, MFC-J450DW, MFC-J870DW, MFC-J285DW and DCP-J152W. Some of those take standard LC101 too, but Brother doesn't list LC101 for the J4710DW. The UK and European MFC-J4710DW uses LC123, LC125XL and LC127XL cartridges, which won't fit a U.S. model.

Yields are Brother's ISO figures. Retail boxes add an S to the part number, such as LC107BKS. There's no LC105 black and no LC107 color: the super high-yield set is LC107 black plus LC105 cyan, magenta and yellow. Some of our listings call these cartridges LC103XL and LC107XXL or LC105XXL. Brother's part numbers are LC103, LC107 and LC105.

Is LC107 / LC105 Worth It Over LC103?

Yes. The super high-yield cartridges print about 1,200 pages each, twice as many as LC103. On October 24, 2026, Staples listed Brother's LC103 black at $26.99 (about 4.5¢ a page) and the LC107 black at $32.99 (about 2.7¢ a page), but the LC107 was out of stock. The LC105 cyan was $24.99 at Staples and $24.29 at Brother's store, out of stock at both. Our remanufactured LC107 black and LC105 colors are $8.99 each (under 1¢ a page), and LC103 cartridges are $7.99 each (about 1.3¢ a page). Both 4-packs are $30.99, so the super high-yield 4-pack gets you twice the pages for the same price.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the Brother MFC-J4710DW?

  1. Open the ink cartridge cover on the front of the printer.
  2. Press the lock-release lever for the color shown on the touchscreen and remove the empty cartridge.
  3. Unpack the new LC103 or LC107/LC105 cartridge and remove the orange protective cap.
  4. Insert the cartridge in the direction of the arrow on the label, then push the back of it until it clicks and the lever lifts.
  5. Close the cover. The printer resets the ink counter on its own.

Which Other Printers Use LC103, LC105 and LC107?

Brother lists LC103 for the DCP-J152W, MFC-J245, MFC-J285DW, MFC-J4310DW, MFC-J4410DW, MFC-J450DW, MFC-J4510DW, MFC-J4610DW, MFC-J470DW, MFC-J475DW, MFC-J650DW, MFC-J6520DW, MFC-J6720DW, MFC-J6920DW, MFC-J870DW and MFC-J875DW, along with the J4710DW. The super high-yield LC107 and LC105 don't fit all of them, so check your own printer's list before you switch.

What MFC-J4710DW owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in Brother support pages, Trusted Reviews and owner forums, answered in our words.

Can it print on 11 x 17 paper?

Yes. The 250-sheet lower tray and the manual feed slot take 11 x 17. The 150-sheet upper tray is for letter size only, so load ledger paper in the lower tray or the slot.

Will LC101 cartridges fit?

Brother doesn't list them for this model. Use LC103 (about 600 pages) or LC107 black with LC105 colors (about 1,200 pages).

It says 'Ink Absorber Full.'

The waste-ink pad has filled up from head cleanings. Brother service replaces the pad and resets the counter. It's a common problem across this generation, and out of warranty many owners replace the printer instead.

The iPrint&Scan app says 'No Supported Devices Found.'

Your phone and the printer are usually on different networks, or the printer's IP address changed. Run the wireless setup wizard from the touchscreen, reserve a fixed IP address for the printer in your router and update the firmware.

MFC-J4710DW quirks worth knowing

  • Brother rates it at 20 ISO pages a minute in black and 18 in color. Trusted Reviews measured 11.5 pages a minute on a 20-page text job.
  • It feeds paper sideways, which keeps the body small for a printer that handles 11 x 17. It holds 400 sheets across two trays, plus a manual feed slot.
  • It's loud. Trusted Reviews measured 68 dBA as the paper ruffles, and found default copies faint, so raise the copy density.
  • It connects over Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Ethernet and AirPrint, with a 3.7-inch color touchscreen. Brother's pages don't mention NFC. Trusted Reviews called it the best of Brother's compact 11 x 17 all-in-ones of 2013.
