The 057 and 057H are shared right across the imageCLASS LBP220 / LBP230 and MF440 / MF450 ranges: the LBP226dw, LBP227dw, LBP228dw, LBP236dw and LBP237dw, and the MF445dw, MF448dw, MF449dw, MF451dw, MF452dw, MF453dw and MF455dw. One cartridge type covers a mixed office.
The MF445dw is a workgroup mono all-in-one — print, copy, scan and fax, with a single-pass two-sided document feeder and automatic two-sided printing. It ships with a full 3,100-page 057, not a reduced starter. When that runs out, the 057H at about 10,000 pages is the better fit if you print a lot.
How to Replace the Toner
- Power on the Canon imageCLASS MF445dw and open the front toner cover.
- Pull the used 057 or 057H cartridge straight out by its handle. It is a large, heavy cartridge — support it with both hands.
- Unbox the new cartridge and rock it gently 5–6 times end to end to distribute the toner.
- Pull the sealing tape straight out, keeping it flat so it does not tear off inside the cartridge.
- Slide the cartridge in until it seats fully and close the cover. The toner gauge resets automatically.
Troubleshooting Tips
Cartridge not recognized after installation: Wipe the chip contacts with a dry lint-free cloth and reseat the cartridge. On the larger 057H it is easy to leave the cartridge slightly proud of its final position, which reads as a chip failure.
Print gets lighter towards the edges of the page: Rock the cartridge to redistribute toner. On a 10,000-page cartridge this is worth doing before assuming it is spent — there is often a meaningful number of pages left.
Grey haze or repeating marks: The drum is inside the cartridge on this series, so both symptoms are resolved by replacing the cartridge rather than by ordering a separate drum.
Streaks that appear only on copies made through the feeder: That is the ADF scan strip, not the toner. Wipe the narrow glass strip to the left of the main flatbed glass with a lint-free cloth.

350 sheets as standard: a 250-sheet cassette plus a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. Canon's optional 550-sheet Cassette Unit-AH1 takes it to 900.
Is the cartridge in the box a cut-down starter?
No. It ships with a full 057 rated at about 3,100 pages, the same as a retail standard cartridge.
Some cheap 057H cartridges say "no chip." Will they work?
Only if you move the chip from your old Canon cartridge onto them. Cartridges sold with a chip install directly.
Should I install Canon's firmware updates?
