Collection: HP 148A & 148X Toner Cartridges – W1480A & W1480X

Castle Ink sells compatible HP 148A / 148X toner cartridges: the standard-yield 148A black (W1480A), with or without a chip, and the high-yield 148X black (W1480X) with a chip. They fit the HP LaserJet Pro 4001dn, 4001dw and 4001n and the LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdn and 4101fdw. Each cartridge is newly manufactured from new components, filled with fresh toner and print-tested. Orders placed by 4 PM ET ship the same business day, shipping is free over $50, and every cartridge is covered by our 1-year 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Chip note: “With Chip” cartridges install like an original. “No Chip” cartridges cost less but need the chip moved over from your empty HP cartridge (instructions included). Either way, turn off automatic firmware updates so a future HP update can't block the cartridge.

HP 148A / 148X Toner: Common Questions

What is the difference between the HP 148A / 148X sizes?

148A prints about 2,900 pages and 148X about 9,500. Both fit the same printers, so 148X costs much less per page. HP's cartridges have the drum built in, so there is no separate drum to buy.

Which printers use HP 148A / 148X toner?

HP LaserJet Pro 4001dn, 4001dw, 4001n, LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdn, MFP 4101fdw. Our Find Ink by Printer page has a guide for each model.

Should I buy the “With Chip” or “No Chip” version?

“With Chip” installs like an original and is the right choice for most people. “No Chip” is cheaper but you must move the chip from your empty HP cartridge onto ours (it clips on; instructions are included). Either way, keep automatic firmware updates off. If a cartridge from us isn't recognized, contact us and we'll replace or refund it under our 1-year guarantee.

Standard or high-yield: which should I buy?

High-yield (the X or H version) in almost every case. It is the same cartridge body with more toner, so each printed page costs less. Standard-yield only makes sense if you print very little.
