Collection: HP 58A & 58X Toner Cartridges – CF258A & CF258X

Castle Ink sells compatible HP 58A / 58X toner cartridges: the standard-yield 58A black (CF258A) and the high-yield 58X black (CF258X), each offered with a chip or without one. They fit the HP LaserJet Pro M404dn, M404dw and M404n and the LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdn and M428fdw. Each cartridge is newly manufactured from new components, filled with fresh toner and print-tested. Orders placed by 4 PM ET ship the same business day, shipping is free over $50, and every cartridge is covered by our 1-year 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Chip note: “With Chip” cartridges install like an original. “No Chip” cartridges cost less but need the chip moved over from your empty HP cartridge (instructions included). Either way, turn off automatic firmware updates so a future HP update can't block the cartridge.

HP 58A / 58X Toner: Common Questions

What is the difference between the HP 58A / 58X sizes?

58A prints about 3,000 pages and 58X about 10,000. Both fit the same printers, so 58X costs much less per page. HP's cartridges have the drum built in, so there is no separate drum to buy.

Which printers use HP 58A / 58X toner?

HP LaserJet Pro M404dn, M404dw, M404n, LaserJet Pro MFP M428fdn, MFP M428fdw. Our Find Ink by Printer page has a guide for each model.

Should I buy the “With Chip” or “No Chip” version?

“With Chip” installs like an original and is the right choice for most people. “No Chip” is cheaper but you must move the chip from your empty HP cartridge onto ours (it clips on; instructions are included). Either way, keep automatic firmware updates off. If a cartridge from us isn't recognized, contact us and we'll replace or refund it under our 1-year guarantee.

Standard or high-yield: which should I buy?

High-yield (the X or H version) in almost every case. It is the same cartridge body with more toner, so each printed page costs less. Standard-yield only makes sense if you print very little.
