HP 87A / 87X Toner: Common Questions

What is the difference between the HP 87A / 87X sizes?

87A prints about 9,000 pages and 87X about 18,000. Both fit the same printers, so 87X costs less per page. HP's cartridges have the drum built in, so there is no separate drum to buy.

Which printers use HP 87A / 87X toner?

HP LaserJet Enterprise M506dn, M506n, M506x, MFP M527dn, MFP M527f, MFP M527z, LaserJet Pro M501dn, M501n. Our Find Ink by Printer page has a guide for each model.

Will compatible HP 87A / 87X toner work in my printer?

Yes. Our cartridges are new, not refilled, and install like an original. Keep automatic firmware updates off so a future HP update can't block third-party toner. If a cartridge from us isn't recognized, contact us and we'll replace or refund it under our 1-year guarantee.

Standard or high-yield: which should I buy?

High-yield (the X or H version) in almost every case. It is the same cartridge body with more toner, so each printed page costs less. Standard-yield only makes sense if you print very little.
