What's in the Box
- 1 × HP 87X Black (CF287X) — about 18,000 pages
Page yields are the manufacturer's ISO/IEC 19752 ratings for the matching original cartridge, measured at roughly 5% page coverage. Your results will vary with what you print.
HP 87 Standard vs. High-Yield: Which Should You Buy?
| Version | Part numbers | Page yield |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (A) | CF287A | 8,550 |
| High Yield (X) | CF287X (2-pack CF287XD) | 18,000 |
All versions fit the same printers. Higher-yield cartridges cost more up front but less per page, so they make sense if you print regularly.

Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
HP LaserJet printers may show a "non-HP supply" or "used supply" notice. Select OK or Continue and print as usual. If a cartridge isn't recognized, remove it, check that all packing tape and the clip are off, and reseat it firmly. Some HP firmware updates have been known to reject third-party chips, so consider turning off automatic firmware updates.
Still stuck? See our guide to fixing a cartridge that isn't recognized or contact us and we'll make it right.
Compatible vs. Remanufactured vs. Original
Original (OEM) cartridges are new from the printer brand and cost the most. Compatible toner, like this one, is newly manufactured from new components to the original's specifications and tested before shipping. Remanufactured cartridges are refilled originals. Castle Ink sells compatible (newly manufactured) toner and drums, and remanufactured inkjet cartridges.
