What's in the Box
- 1 × Dell 310-5401 Black (310-5400) compatible toner cartridge — about 6,000 pages
Page yield is the manufacturer's rating for the matching original cartridge, measured at roughly 5% page coverage under ISO/IEC 19752 or 19798 testing. Your results will vary with what you print.
Compatible Printers (3 models)
- Dell 1700
- Dell 1700n
- Dell 1710
Don't mix these up: 310-5402 is a separate MICR toner for the same printers (Dell 1700, 6,000 pages). 310-5400 is the OEM number on the page.

Installation & Troubleshooting
Installing: open the printer's front or top cover and pull the empty cartridge out by its handle. Gently rock the new cartridge side to side five or six times to spread the toner, pull the sealing tape straight out if there is one, slide it in until it seats and close the cover.
Supply messages: if the printer shows a "non-genuine" or "used supply" notice, press OK or Continue to keep printing. If the cartridge isn't recognized, check that all packing material is off and reseat it firmly.
Streaks or faint print: rock the cartridge again to redistribute the toner and print a cleaning page from the printer menu.

Compatible vs. Remanufactured vs. Original
Original (OEM) supplies are new from the printer brand and cost the most. Compatible supplies, like this one, are newly manufactured by a third party to the original's size and page-yield specifications, so they drop into the same slot at a much lower price. Remanufactured supplies are emptied originals that have been cleaned and refilled.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pages does the Dell 310-5401 Black print?
About 6,000 pages, based on Dell's rating for the original 310-5400 at roughly 5% coverage.
Which printers does it fit?
1700, 1700n and 1710. See the full list above, or check our Find Ink by Printer page.
Will this void my printer warranty?
No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer can't void your printer warranty just because you used a third-party or remanufactured supply. If a non-original supply directly caused damage, that specific repair might not be covered.
How long can I store it?
Sealed toner keeps for about two years at room temperature. Keep it in its bag, away from heat and direct sunlight, and store it flat.
When will my order ship?
Orders placed by 4 PM ET, Monday through Friday, ship the same business day from Long Island, NY, by USPS (2–5 business days). Expedited 1–2 day delivery is available at checkout, and shipping is free on orders over $50.
