Don't mix these up: HP 70 red is used only in the Z3100/Z3100ps. The DesignJet Z3200 uses an HP 73 Chromatic Red cartridge instead, and the Z2100, Z5200 and Z5400 have no red ink slot. HP 70 cartridges are also not interchangeable with HP 72 (DesignJet T-series) or HP 91 (DesignJet Z6100) cartridges.

Separate printheads: HP 70 printers use ink cartridges and separate HP 70 printheads. This cartridge replaces the ink only. After installing, let the printer finish its ink check; if colors look streaky, run the printhead check or cleaning from the front panel.

Red printhead: on the Z3100 the red ink shares the HP 70 Matte Black & Red printhead (C9409A), which is replaced separately.

Printer messages: these are remanufactured from genuine HP 70 cartridges and keep the original HP chip. The printer may show a non-HP or refilled-ink notice or report the ink level as unknown; accept the message to keep printing. If a cartridge isn't recognized, pull it out, check the contacts are clean and dry, and push it firmly back into the correct color slot.

Which printers use HP 70 red ink?

The HP DesignJet Z3100 and Z3100ps. Other HP 70 printers (Z2100, Z5200, Z5400) don't use red, and the Z3200 uses HP 73 Chromatic Red.

Does HP 70 red work in the DesignJet Z3200?

No. The Z3200 takes the HP 73 Chromatic Red cartridge in that slot, not the HP 70 red.

Do I need to replace the printhead too?

Not usually. HP 70 printheads are separate and last through many ink cartridges. Replace the Matte Black & Red printhead only if the printer reports a printhead problem that cleaning doesn't fix.

Will this void my printer warranty?

No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer can't void your printer warranty just because you used a third-party or remanufactured supply. If a non-original cartridge directly caused damage, that specific repair might not be covered.
