How to Print Photos From an iPhone (4x6, Wallet Size, at Home or In Store)
Last Updated:Quick answer: To print a photo from your iPhone at home, open it in the Photos app, tap the Share button, scroll down and tap Print, choose your AirPrint printer, set Paper Size (for example 4 x 6) and tap Print. If your printer doesn't support AirPrint, use its maker's app instead. For lots of prints or wallet sizes, order from the Walmart, Walgreens or CVS photo service and pick them up the same day.
This guide is only about photos from the iPhone Photos app: 4x6 prints, wallet sizes, cropping and where printing is cheapest. If you need to print documents, emails or web pages from your phone, see our complete guide to printing from your phone. The most common gotcha is size: iPhone photos are a different shape than a 4x6 print, so edges get cut off unless you crop first.

How do you print photos from an iPhone to a home printer?
Open the photo in Photos, tap Share, then Print, pick your printer, set the options and tap Print. This uses AirPrint, which is built into iOS, so there's nothing to install if your printer supports it.
- Make sure your iPhone and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network, and load photo paper in the printer.
- Open the Photos app and tap the photo you want.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down the share sheet and tap Print.
- If it says No Printer Selected, tap it and choose your printer.
- Set the number of copies and the other options your printer offers (see the next section for paper size).
- Tap Print in the upper-right corner.
The options on the print screen come partly from your printer, so they vary. Many photo-capable printers add Paper Size, a paper or media type, and a quality setting. Apple notes that AirPrint won't work with a printer plugged into a computer by USB or Bluetooth, or into an AirPort Base Station. If your printer never shows up, start with what AirPrint is and which printers have it, then our AirPrint not working fixes. The steps match printing from an iPad.
How do you print 4x6 photos from an iPhone?
Load 4x6 photo paper in the printer's photo tray or main tray, then on the iPhone print screen change Paper Size to 4 x 6 (sometimes labeled 4 x 6 in or 10 x 15 cm) before tapping Print.
- Load the 4x6 paper with the print side facing the way your printer manual shows, and slide the paper guides snug against the stack.
- In Photos, tap Share > Print.
- Tap Paper Size and choose the 4 x 6 option. If your printer lists both a bordered and a borderless 4 x 6, pick borderless for an edge-to-edge print.
- If you see a paper type or media setting, set it to the photo paper you loaded.
- Tap Print.
If you don't see a 4 x 6 option at all, the printer may not support that size from AirPrint, or the tray isn't set up for it. Try your printer maker's app (covered below), which often exposes more sizes. Borderless works only on printers that support it; our borderless printing guide covers HP, Epson, Canon and Brother.

How do you print smaller or wallet-size photos from an iPhone?
The iPhone print screen can't shrink a photo or tile several copies on one sheet by itself. Make a grid or collage first, use your printer's app, or order wallet prints from a store.
AirPrint sizes the image to the paper you choose. If you choose letter-size paper, you get one big photo. There's no built-in scale percentage or layout picker in the Photos print screen. Your options:
- Use small paper. If your printer takes 3.5 x 5 or 4 x 6 paper, choosing that size gives you a smaller print without any extra steps.
- Make a grid first. Combine several photos (or several copies of one) into a single image with a collage or layout app, then print that image on letter-size photo paper and cut it. Our guide to printing multiple pictures on one page walks through this, including standard wallet layouts.
- Use your printer maker's app. Some printer apps offer extra layouts or sizes that AirPrint doesn't show. It depends on the app and the printer model.
- Order wallets from a store. Walmart, Walgreens and CVS all list wallet-size prints in their photo services, often with same-day pickup.
How do you print several photos at once from an iPhone?
In Photos, tap Select, tap each photo you want, then tap Share > Print. Each photo prints on its own sheet at the paper size you choose.
- Open Photos and go to the grid of photos (your library or an album).
- Tap Select, then tap each photo. A checkmark appears on each one.
- Tap Share, then Print.
- Set the printer, Paper Size and copies. The copies number applies to every selected photo.
- Tap Print.
Want several photos on one sheet instead of one per page? Use the grid approach above.
What if your printer doesn't support AirPrint?
Install your printer maker's free app, connect it to the printer over Wi-Fi, and print photos from inside the app. Most current HP, Canon, Epson and Brother printers have one.
HP
HP's iPhone app is now simply called HP (the App Store listing says it was formerly HP Smart). Add your printer in the app, then use its print option to pick photos from your library.
Canon
Canon PRINT (formerly Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY) covers PIXMA, MAXIFY and SELPHY models. Canon's manual describes choosing a photo under Photo Print and tapping Print.
Epson
Epson Smart Panel is Epson's current app. Epson's user guides say to open the app, choose the print photo menu from the home screen, select your photo and print.
Brother
Brother Mobile Connect is Brother's main app for newer models. Brother points owners of older models that aren't supported to its iPrint&Scan app.
These apps can help even with AirPrint, since some show paper types, borderless or layout settings (and ink levels) the iPhone print screen doesn't.
Why are your iPhone photos printing cropped or the wrong size?
The iPhone camera normally shoots in a 4:3 shape, but a 4x6 print is 3:2. The printer has to cut some of the image off (fill) or leave white bars (fit) to make it match.
When you print a 4:3 photo borderless on 4x6, the printer enlarges it to cover the paper and trims the long edges. That's why heads and feet get chopped in group shots.
The fix is to crop in Photos before you print, so you decide what gets cut:
- Open the photo and tap Edit.
- Tap Crop.
- Tap the aspect ratio button and choose 3:2 (rotate the box if the photo is vertical).
- Drag the photo to frame it, then tap Done.
Crops in Photos aren't permanent. You can open the photo, tap Edit and choose Revert later. For a 5x7, crop to 7:5. If you'd rather keep the whole image, print with a border and accept a thin white strip on two sides. Some printers show a fit or fill choice on the print screen or in their app; fit keeps the whole picture, fill covers the paper and trims.
How do you print photos from an iPhone at Walmart, CVS, Walgreens or Staples?
Upload your photos on the store's photo website or app, choose sizes, pick a nearby store for same-day pickup and pay. Walmart, Walgreens and CVS all offer this; at Staples, check your local store.
The flow is similar at each store:
- Open the retailer's photo site in Safari or its app on your iPhone.
- Choose prints, then upload photos from your camera roll.
- Pick sizes (4x6, 5x7, wallet) and the finish if offered.
- Choose a store and same-day pickup, check the ready time and place the order.
Walmart
Walmart Photo lists same-day 4x6 and 5x7 prints, which can be ready in as little as an hour at some stores, plus same-day wallet prints. You order online and choose a store to see its pickup availability.
Walgreens
Walgreens Photo offers same-day pickup on wallets, 4x6 prints, enlargements and collages. You can order on photo.walgreens.com or through the Walgreens app, which lets you pick photos from your phone and choose store pickup.
CVS
CVS Photo offers same-day pickup on select products, including 4x6 prints, if you order by 7 p.m. local time. It also lists wallet and collage prints.
Staples
Staples' US print site focuses on photo gifts, canvas, mounted prints and posters, with same-day pickup on many items. We couldn't confirm standard 4x6 prints online, so call or check your local Staples before you go.
Prices and promotions change constantly, so compare them in each app on the day you order.
What is the best way to print photos from an iPhone?
For a few prints today, use your home printer. For dozens of prints or wallets, use same-day store pickup. For big batches where you can wait, a mail-order lab is usually the best value.

| Method | Speed | Cost per 4x6 | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home printer (AirPrint or printer app) | Minutes | Ink plus paper; varies a lot by printer | A few prints, crafts, odd sizes, privacy |
| Same-day store pickup (Walmart, Walgreens, CVS) | About an hour or more, depending on the store | Check the app on the day you order | Dozens of prints, wallets, party photos |
| Mail-order photo lab | Several days plus shipping | Often lowest per print in bulk | Big batches, albums, enlargements |
What is the cheapest way to print photos from an iPhone?
For large batches, store or mail-order prints are usually cheapest per 4x6, especially with a promotion. At home, cost depends on your printer: ink tank printers and lower-cost cartridges can make home prints competitive.
To estimate your home cost per 4x6:
- Paper: divide the price of your photo paper pack by the number of sheets.
- Ink: a 4x6 photo uses much more color ink than a page of text, and published page yields are measured on text-and-graphics pages, not photos. A practical method is to note your ink levels, print a batch of 20 or so 4x6 photos, and see how much of each cartridge you used.
- Add them: ink cost per photo plus paper cost per sheet is your real cost per print.
Our printer ink cost calculator helps with the ink side, and our roundup of printers with the cheapest ink shows which models are cheap to run.
If you print photos often on a cartridge printer, ink is the biggest cost. Castle Ink's remanufactured cartridges cost less than brand-name ones and carry a 1-year satisfaction guarantee; find the cartridges for your printer by model.
How do you make iPhone photo prints look better at home?
Use real inkjet photo paper, set the paper type to match it, choose the highest quality setting, and crop to the right shape first. Those four steps fix most dull or blurry home prints.
- Use photo paper. Plain paper soaks up ink and looks flat. Pick a finish with our glossy vs matte vs luster guide.
- Match the paper type. If the print screen or printer app offers a paper or media type, set it to the photo paper you loaded. The wrong setting can cause streaks, smears or washed-out color.
- Raise the quality. Choose the best or highest quality setting where it's offered. It's slower and uses more ink, but it's worth it for photos.
- Don't worry about HEIC. iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, and printing from the Photos app handles that for you. You don't need to convert anything.
- Brighten slightly. Photos usually print a little darker than they look on a bright iPhone screen. A small exposure or brightness bump in Edit often helps.
- Check the printer. Faded or missing colors usually mean low ink or clogged nozzles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an app to print photos from my iPhone?
No, not if your printer supports AirPrint. Printing is built into the Photos app through the Share button. You only need your printer maker's app if the printer lacks AirPrint or you want settings AirPrint doesn't show.
Can I print iPhone Live Photos?
Yes. A printed Live Photo is a single still frame, usually the key photo you see in your library. If you prefer a different moment, choose a new key photo in Edit before you print.
How big can I print an iPhone photo?
Recent iPhones capture enough detail for sharp 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10 prints, and larger prints usually look fine from normal viewing distance. Heavily zoomed or cropped photos lose detail, so print those smaller.
Why does my iPhone print a full page instead of a 4x6?
The Paper Size on the print screen is still set to letter. Change it to 4 x 6 before you tap Print, and make sure 4x6 paper is loaded in the tray the printer uses for that size.
