What Toner Does the Dell 3110cn Use?

Quick answer: The Dell 3110cn uses four toner cartridges. The high-yield set is 310-8092 black, 310-8094 cyan, 310-8096 magenta and 310-8098 yellow, each rated at about 8,000 pages. The standard set is 310-8093 black (about 5,000 pages) and 310-8095, 310-8097 and 310-8099 color (about 4,000 each).

Discontinued. Dell launched the 3110cn in mid-2006 at $499; original Dell toner is now hard to find and off Dell's U.S. store.

What Toner Does the Dell 3110cn Take?

Toner yields are Dell's ISO/IEC 19752 ratings at about 5% coverage, confirmed by Dell's own listing for the high-yield black and by Office Depot, Newegg and CDW listings for the rest. Dell's support article on fuser errors gives the 100,000-page fuser interval. Dell also sold the same cartridges under 3115cn part numbers (310-8395 to 310-8401). High Yield vs. Standard: The Cost Math

On October 26, 2026, 4inkjets listed Dell's original 310-8092 black at $189.99 (about 2.4¢ a page) and the high-yield colors at $267.99 to $296.99 (about 3.4¢ to 3.7¢ a page each); Newegg had the cyan at $159.98. The standard 310-8093 black was $151.46 for 5,000 pages (about 3¢), so the high-yield cartridges are the better buy. Our compatible high-yield black is $99.95 (about 1.25¢ a page) and the colors $129.95 each (about 1.6¢). Because the drum is built into each cartridge, that's the whole running cost until the fuser kit is due.

Will Compatible Toner Work?

Yes. Each compatible cartridge comes with its own chip and installs like Dell's. One thing owners notice with non-Dell cartridges is faint printing without a low-toner warning; running the developer refresh in the printer's Maintenance menu a few times usually brings the density back.

How Do I Replace the Toner in the Dell 3110cn?

  1. Push the side button and open the front cover.
  2. Grasp the empty cartridge by its handles and pull it straight out.
  3. Shake the new cartridge five or six times to spread the toner, then unpack it, leaving the orange cover on.
  4. Pull the seal straight out by its tab (pulling at an angle can tear it), then slide the cartridge fully into the slot of the same color, label up, and remove the orange cover.
  5. Close the front cover within five minutes to protect the drums from light, and don't touch the black film on the belt unit.

Which Other Printers Use This Toner?

The Dell 3115cn multifunction printer uses the same cartridges. Dell's later 3130cn uses different toner. For another Dell laser, see our Dell 2330dn and 2350dn toner guide.

What Dell 3110cn owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in Dell's support community and repair forums, answered in our words.

Do I need to buy a separate drum?

No. The drum is built into each toner cartridge, so every new cartridge comes with a fresh drum for that color.

What does error 010-351 mean?

The fuser has reached its replacement point. Turn the printer off and on, print the Parameter Setting Report to check the fuser's page count, and replace it if it's at 100,000 pages; otherwise reseat it.

Why are my prints faint but there's no low-toner warning?

Run the developer refresh in the Maintenance menu a few times, or print a few pages of solid color. It's common after installing a non-Dell cartridge.

Why do I get diagonal banding when the fuser and belt read 100%?

The life meters don't detect print-quality faults. Try a different toner cartridge first; if the bands stay, the belt unit (part of the 310-8730 kit) is the next suspect.

A brand-new Dell cartridge shows "Check M Cart" (093-290). What now?

Reseat it firmly and restart the printer. If a Dell cartridge still isn't recognized, contact Dell with the order number and the cartridge's serial (PPID).

Dell 3110cn quirks worth knowing

  • Two-sided printing needs the optional duplexer, which many units never had.
  • It has Ethernet, USB and parallel ports, but only one can be active at a time.
  • The front-panel toner gauge is approximate, so keep a spare on hand.
  • Dell rated it at 31 pages a minute in black and 17 in color, with a 60,000-page monthly duty cycle.
