What Toner Does the Dell 2330dn and 2350dn Use?

Quick answer: The Dell 2330d, 2330dn, 2350d and 2350dn all use the same black toner: the high-yield Dell 330-2650 (PK941), rated at about 6,000 pages, or the standard Dell PK492 (330-2648), about 2,000 pages. The toner sits in a separate PK496 (330-2663) imaging drum rated at about 30,000 pages.

Dell sold the same cartridges under several numbers, which is why listings are confusing: 330-2650, 330-2667, PK941 and RR700 are all the 6,000-page cartridge, and 330-2649 (PK937) is the same yield sold outside Dell's Use & Return program. What Toner Does the Dell 2330dn and 2350dn Take?

Toner yields are Dell's ISO/IEC 19752 figures at about 5% coverage, and Dell's user's guide says the printer stops at a maximum of 30,000 pages on one drum. "Use & Return" cartridges were sold a little cheaper by Dell on the condition that you send them back rather than refill them. Dell's own product listings, Staples and Newegg all list these supplies for the 2330d/dn and 2350d/dn.

High Yield vs. Standard: The Cost Math

On October 26, 2026, Staples listed Dell's 6,000-page PK941 at $141.99 (about 2.4¢ a page) and the 2,000-page PK492 at $82.99 (about 4.1¢ a page), and 4inkjets listed Dell's PK496 drum at $72.29. Dell's 6,000-page cartridge is the clear buy over the standard one: three times the pages for well under twice the price. Will Compatible Toner Work?

Yes. A compatible cartridge comes with its own chip and installs like Dell's. These printers can throw an intermittent "Replace missing or defective toner" (31.xx) message even with genuine Dell cartridges, so if you see it, take the toner out of the drum, snap it back in until it clicks, and reinstall the assembly before you assume the cartridge is bad.

How Do I Replace the Toner in the Dell 2330dn or 2350dn?

1. Press the release button on the right side and open the front cover.
2. Lift out the toner and drum assembly by its handle.
3. Press the button on the base of the drum and lift the toner cartridge out.
4. Unpack the new cartridge and shake it in several directions to spread the toner. Keep it out of direct light.
5. Line up the cartridge's white rollers with the arrows on the drum tracks and push it in until it clicks.
6. Slide the assembly back into the printer and close the front cover.

Which Other Printers Use This Toner?

Only these four Dell models: the 2330d, 2330dn, 2350d and 2350dn. The PK496 drum also fits the Dell 2230d, 3330dn, 3333dn and 3335dn, which use different toner. Yes. PK941, PK937 and PK492 toner and the PK496 drum are sold for all four 2330 and 2350 models.

How do I clear "PC Life Warning"?

That message means the drum is near its 30,000-page limit. Install a new drum, then reset the drum counter; owners report holding the Cancel (X) button for about five seconds with the front cover open. Follow the sheet packed with the drum, and don't reset the counter on an old drum: Dell warns it can damage the printer.

What's the difference between 330-2649 and 330-2650?

Both are 6,000-page cartridges. 330-2649 (PK937) is the regular version; 330-2650 (PK941) is the Use & Return version that Dell sold for single use and return.

Why does it say "Replace missing or defective toner" with a full cartridge?
