HP 72 Ink: Common Questions

What is the difference between the 69 ml and 130 ml HP 72 sizes?

Only the amount of ink. Both fit the same slots, and the 130 ml size holds nearly twice as much and costs less per milliliter. We carry the 130 ml size in all six colors.

Which printers use HP 72 ink?

HP DesignJet T610, T620, T770, T790, T1100, T1120, T1200, T1300 and T2300 (including the ps and MFP versions). HP 72 is not the same as HP 727, which fits the newer DesignJet T920/T930/T1500/T1530/T2500/T2530. Our Find Ink by Printer page has a guide for each model.

Will remanufactured HP 72 cartridges work in my DesignJet?

Yes. Each cartridge is a genuine HP 72 shell with its original chip, cleaned, refilled and print-tested, so it installs like an original. The printer shows a notice when a refilled cartridge is installed; confirm it on the front panel to keep printing. HP 72 printheads are shared by two colors each and are replaced separately. If a cartridge from us isn't recognized, contact us and we'll replace or refund it under our 1-year guarantee.

Matte black or photo black?

Both stay installed. The printer uses matte black on uncoated and matte papers and photo black on glossy and satin media, so replace whichever one the printer reports as empty. Each color is a separate cartridge, so there is no need to replace all six at once.
