Chips, Printer Messages & Installation

Installing: with the printer on, open the cover and wait for the print head holder to stop. Press the tab on the empty tank and lift it out, remove the orange cap from the new tank, then press it down into the slot with the matching label until it clicks. The lamp on the tank lights when it is seated correctly.

Ink level messages: the printer may say the remaining ink level cannot be detected. Press and hold the Stop/Resume button for about 5 seconds to continue; the warning is disabled for that tank only.

Streaks or missing colors: run a nozzle check and cleaning from the maintenance menu. The print head stays in the printer, so let it rest between cleanings and run a deep cleaning only if needed.

Remanufactured vs. Compatible vs. Original

Original (OEM) cartridges are new from the printer brand and cost the most. Remanufactured cartridges, like this one, start as genuine original shells (including the original chip) that are cleaned, refilled with high-quality ink and print-tested, so they fit and communicate like the original at a fraction of the price. Compatible cartridges are built new by a third party with their own chip. Castle Ink sells remanufactured inkjet cartridges and compatible (newly manufactured) toner.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is in this pack?

Canon PGI-270XL Pigment Black (0319C001); Canon CLI-271XL Black (0336C001); Canon CLI-271XL Cyan (0337C001); Canon CLI-271XL Magenta (0338C001); Canon CLI-271XL Yellow (0339C001).

My printer uses gray too. Is this enough?

The MG7720, TS8020 and TS9020 also need a CLI-271 gray, sold separately or in the 6-pack.

Will this void my printer warranty?

No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer can't void your printer warranty just because you used a third-party or remanufactured supply. If a non-original supply directly caused damage, that specific repair might not be covered.

How long can I store it?

Store it sealed, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, and use it within about 24 months for best results. Once opened, install it promptly.

When will my order ship?

Orders placed by 4 PM ET, Monday through Friday, ship the same business day from Long Island, NY, by USPS (2–5 business days). Expedited 1–2 day delivery is available at checkout, and shipping is free on orders over $50.
