What MICR ink does: MICR (magnetic ink character recognition) ink contains iron oxide, so bank sorting equipment can read the routing, account and check numbers printed along the bottom of a check in the E-13B font defined by the ANSI X9 standards. Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Chip and firmware: this MICR cartridge is rebuilt from a genuine HP 902XL shell but uses a replacement (non-HP) chip. HP's dynamic security can reject non-HP chips, and HP says only OfficeJet 6950 and OfficeJet Pro 6970-series units made before December 1, 2016 can install the firmware that turns that check off. Turn off automatic firmware updates, and if your printer rejects the cartridge, contact us before you print checks.
If you see a "cartridge problem" or "used cartridge" message, select OK or Continue; if the cartridge isn't recognized, remove it, check that the protective tape is off, wipe the copper contacts and reinstall.
