Don't mix these up: HP 564 looks like HP 920 and HP 178 (the European number), but in the U.S. only HP 564 fits these printers. The black for text and the photo black (used by five-ink Photosmart models) are different cartridges.

Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Installing: with the printer on, open the ink access door and wait for the carriage to stop. Press the front of the old cartridge to release it, unwrap the new one and push it into the slot with the matching color until it clicks. Close the door and let the printer finish its startup routine before printing.
Ink level messages: the printer may show a "used" or "non-HP" cartridge notice, or an ink gauge that reads low. Press OK to continue and judge by print quality, not the gauge.
Printhead is separate: HP 564 printers use a separate printhead, so if a color stays faded after a new cartridge, run Clean Printhead from the Tools menu, and see how to clean print heads.

Yes. Both are the HP 564XL black. HP changed the part number, so either one fits the same printers.

Do I also need the photo black?
Only on five-ink Photosmart models such as the 6520, 7520 and C310. The DeskJet 3520, OfficeJet 4620, Photosmart 5520 and Photosmart B110 use four inks and have no photo black slot.
