How to Replace Ink in the Canon PIXMA MX532
- Power on the printer and open the front cover; the print head holder will move to center.
- Press down on the empty cartridge to release it and lift it out of the holder.
- Remove the new cartridge from packaging and peel off the orange protective tape.
- Insert the new cartridge at a slight angle and press up until it clicks into place.
- Close the front cover; the MX532 will initialize the print head.
Troubleshooting Tips
Cartridge not recognized: Remove the cartridge, wipe the gold contacts gently with a dry lint-free cloth, and reseat firmly.
Streaky or faded prints: Run Print Head Cleaning from the Setup menu under Maintenance.
Fax/scan issues: The MX532 has fax and ADF — ensure cartridges are properly installed before fax operations.
Low ink warnings and support code 1686: A remanufactured or refilled cartridge can't report its ink level, so the MX532 may stop with support code 1686. To keep printing, hold the Stop (Resume) button for about 5 seconds. That turns off ink-level detection for that cartridge only, so replace it when prints start to fade.

Yes. It has a 30-sheet document feeder that takes originals up to legal size, and a Super G3 color fax with about 50 pages of memory.
Will it print on both sides automatically?
Yes. Automatic two-sided printing is built in.
The document feeder reports a jam but nothing is stuck. How do I fix it?
Canon's advice on its community forum is to clean the feeder rollers. In one case an item left on the scanner glass was part of the problem, and the feeder worked again once it was removed and the jam cleared.
What does support code 5100 mean?
It's a carriage error, often caused by a scrap of paper or other debris blocking the cartridge holder. Turn the printer off and check the paper path. If the code keeps coming back, the printer may need service.
