Correction (October 2026): an earlier version of this guide listed the TN-360 as the standard cartridge and said the drum lasts about three toners. The TN-360 is the high-yield cartridge, the standard one is the TN-330, and the DR-360 drum lasts about four to five high-yield cartridges. We also removed toner-reset steps that don't apply to this model.
The Brother HL-2150N is a networked monochrome laser printer that uses TN-330 (standard) or TN-360 (high-yield) toner and the DR-360 drum unit. It was sold mainly in Europe, where the same parts are called TN-2110, TN-2120 and DR-2100. The toner produces the printed image while the drum transfers it to paper — they are two separate consumables on this model.

No longer sold new. The HL-2150N is an older, mainly European model, and we found no current Brother listing. TN-330, TN-360 and DR-360 (TN-2110, TN-2120 and DR-2100 in Europe) are still sold.

How to Replace the Toner and Drum
- Power on the Brother HL-2150N and open the toner access cover.
- Pull out the toner/drum assembly as a single unit.
- To replace just the toner, push the green lock lever and separate the toner from the drum, then snap in the new TN360 cartridge.
- To replace the drum, install the existing toner into the new DR-360 drum unit.
- Slide the assembly back into the printer, close the cover, and reset the drum counter if you replaced the drum.
Troubleshooting Tips
Toner light: The HL-2150N has no screen or menu, so there is no toner counter to reset. A new TN-330 or TN-360 resets the count by itself through a reset gear on the cartridge.
Faded or streaky prints: Gently rock the toner cartridge side-to-side to redistribute toner, then reinstall. If streaks remain, clean the corona wire by sliding the green tab back and forth several times.
Drum light after a new drum: With the printer on and the front cover open, hold Go for about 4 seconds until all four lights come on, release it, then close the cover. Only do this when you have fitted a new DR-360, not after a toner change.
Paper jams or smudges: Inspect the paper path and pickup roller for wear. Replacing worn rollers and keeping the printer dust-free prevents repeated print-quality issues.
What HL-2150N owners ask
These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, Brother's support pages and owner reviews, answered in our words.
My manual lists TN-2110 and TN-2120. Are those different from TN-330 and TN-360?
No. They are the European names for the same pair: TN-2110 is the standard TN-330 and TN-2120 is the high-yield TN-360. The drum is DR-2100 in Europe and DR-360 in the U.S.
How do I know the toner is getting low?
The Toner light cycles on for 2 seconds and off for 3. The printer keeps printing until the cartridge reaches the end of its life, so have a spare ready.
Why does the Toner light stay on with a refilled cartridge?
The printer recognizes a new cartridge by a reset gear on its side, not a chip. A refilled or remanufactured cartridge needs a fresh reset gear, and the starter cartridge that came in the box never had one.
How much did the starter toner print?
Brother's user guide rates it at about 1,000 pages. The European datasheet says about 1,500, so it seems to vary by region.
How do I reset the network settings after changing routers?
Turn the printer off, hold Go while you switch it on until the Toner, Drum and Error lights come on, then release Go and press it seven times. All the lights come on to confirm the print server is back to its defaults.
HL-2150N quirks worth knowing
- The HL-2150N is the networked version of the HL-2140 (the HL-2170W adds Wi-Fi). It has USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet, PCL6 emulation and a built-in web page for managing it on the network.
- It was sold mainly in Europe. Brother USA's TN-330 page lists the HL-2140 and HL-2170W but not the HL-2150N.
- There is no screen. Everything, from the drum reset to the settings page and network reset, is done with the Go button while you watch four lights: Toner, Drum, Error and Ready.
- The printer originally told a TN-330 from a TN-360 by the length of the reset gear train on the cartridge. Brother later moved both to one gear style.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What toner does the Brother HL-2150N use?
A: TN-330 (standard, about 1,500 pages) or TN-360 (high yield, about 2,600 pages) black toner, plus a DR-360 drum unit.
Q: Does the Brother HL-2150N need a separate drum unit?
A: Yes — the DR-360 drum unit is separate from the toner and typically lasts about 12,000 pages, or about four to five TN-360 cartridges at Brother's rated yields.
Q: Can I use compatible TN360 cartridges?
A: Yes. TN-360 cartridges have no authentication chip, so there is no lockout. The printer spots a new cartridge with a mechanical reset gear, so choose a compatible that comes with a new gear. Using third-party toner doesn't void the warranty, but Brother won't cover damage it attributes to that toner.
Q: Where can I buy TN360 toner?
A: Browse TN360 cartridges at Castle Ink for compatible TN-360 toner.
