What Toner Does the Brother HL-5370DW Take?
| Cartridge | Brother part no. | Approx. yield | Castle Ink option |
|---|---|---|---|
| TN650 Black (high yield) | TN650 | ~8,000 pages | Castle Ink TN650, $46.95 |
| TN620 Black (standard) | TN620 | ~3,000 pages | Castle Ink TN620, $37.95 |

Yields are Brother's ISO 19752 figures from the HL-5340D/5350DN/5370DW user's guide, confirmed by Staples and 4inkjets. In the UK and Europe the same cartridges are sold as TN-3230, TN-3280 and DR-3200.
What Does HL-5370DW Toner Cost per Page?
On October 28, 2026, Staples listed Brother's TN650 at $147.99 (about 1.9¢ a page) and TN620 at $93.99 (about 3.1¢ a page), and 4inkjets had the DR620 drum at $170.99 (about 0.7¢ a page). Our compatible TN650 is $46.95 (about 0.6¢ a page), our TN620 is $37.95 (about 1.3¢ a page) and our DR620 is $49.95 (about 0.2¢ a page), so the all-in cost with the TN650 is roughly 0.8¢ a page.
Will Compatible Toner Work?
Yes. The TN620 and TN650 have no chip; the printer meters toner with a counter and sensor, so compatible cartridges work without any firmware concern. If prints fade near the end of a cartridge, pull it and rock it side to side five or six times to redistribute the toner before buying a replacement.
How Do I Replace the Toner in the HL-5370DW?
- With the printer on, open the front cover.
- Pull out the drum-and-toner assembly and set it on disposable paper; do not touch the drum surface or the electrodes.
- Push down the blue lock lever on the drum unit and pull the old toner cartridge out.
- Unpack the new TN620 or TN650, remove its protective cover and push it firmly into the drum until it clicks; the lock lever lifts on its own.
- Clean the corona wire by sliding the blue tab inside the drum from side to side several times, then return it to the home position.
- Reinstall the assembly and close the front cover; the Toner LED should go out. Do not reset the drum counter after a toner-only change.
When you fit a new DR620, open the front cover, hold Go for about four seconds until all four LEDs light, release it and close the cover to reset the drum counter.
Which Other Printers Use TN620, TN650 and DR620?
The HL-5340D, HL-5340DL, HL-5350DN, HL-5370DW, HL-5370DWT and HL-5380DN; the DCP-8050DN, DCP-8080DN and DCP-8085DN; and the MFC-8370, MFC-8480DN, MFC-8680DN, MFC-8690DW, MFC-8880DN and MFC-8890DW all take the same toner and drum.
What HL-5370DW owners ask
These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, manufacturer support communities and owner reviews, answered in our words.
How do I reset the drum counter after installing a new DR620?
Open the front cover, press and hold Go for about four seconds until all four LEDs light, release Go, close the cover and check that the Drum LED is off. Do not do this when you only change toner.
Can I keep printing after the Replace Toner light comes on?
Not by design; Brother's guide says the printer stops until a new cartridge is installed. An unofficial Go-button sequence circulates online that is said to reset the toner counter, but Brother does not document it and we could not verify it.
The Drum light is solid on a nearly new printer. Does the drum really need replacing?
Print the configuration page (press Go three times) to check the counters, then clean the corona wire and the drum-unit contacts inside the printer before buying a drum; forum techs report dirty contacts triggering the light early.
Why does wireless setup keep failing?
There is no LCD, so Wi-Fi must be configured via WPS/AOSS or over a USB or Ethernet connection. Owners resolved it by resetting the print server (with all LEDs off, press Go eight times) and reconfiguring, or by simply using the Ethernet port.
HL-5370DW quirks worth knowing
- Status comes from five LEDs and two buttons: Toner Low is the Toner LED blinking, Replace Toner is solid and printing stops; Drum End Soon blinks, Replace Drum is solid.
- Hidden Go-button functions: three presses prints a configuration page, a 10-second hold prints the network page, and eight presses with all LEDs off resets the print server.
- The DR620 drum outlasts about three TN650 cartridges, so most changes are toner-only.
- Reviewers measured well under the rated 32 ppm on short jobs, and the paper tray is widely described as flimsy.
