Brother HL-L2360DW Toner and Drum at a Glance

Supply Color Approx. Yield
Brother TN630 Black ~1,200 pages
Brother TN660 Black ~2,600 pages
Brother DR630 drum unit — ~12,000 pages

Toner and Drum Are Separate Parts

Brother splits these into two units. The toner holds the powder; the drum transfers it to the page and lasts several toner changes. A "Replace Drum" message does not mean you need toner, and a "Replace Toner" message does not mean you need a drum — a distinction that saves owners a lot of money.

The Mix-Up That Costs People Money

Brother's mono lasers of this era split into two nearly identical families:

  • TN630 / TN660 with the DR630 drum — HL-L2300D, HL-L2320D, HL-L2340DW, HL-L2360DW, HL-L2380DW, DCP-L2520DW, DCP-L2540DW, MFC-L2700DW, MFC-L2740DW
  • TN730 / TN760 with the DR730 drum — HL-L2350DW, HL-L2370DW, HL-L2390DW, HL-L2395DW, DCP-L2550DW, MFC-L2710DW, MFC-L2750DW

The cartridges look nearly identical and the model numbers differ by one digit. Check your printer's exact model before ordering.

The In-Box Toner Is a Starter

These printers ship with a ~700-page starter cartridge, not a full 1,200-page TN630. That is why the first "replace toner" message often arrives much sooner than the specification suggests. It is normal, not a fault.

For almost everyone the high-yield TN660 is the right buy — more than twice the pages of TN630 for a small price difference.

Is the HL-L2360DW Discontinued?

Yes, Brother has discontinued it and names no successor. TN660 and DR630 supplies remain widely available.

What HL-L2360DW owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, Brother's support pages and owner reviews, answered in our words.

It says "Replace Toner" but prints still look fine. Can I keep going?

Yes. In the menu, go to General Setup > Replace Toner and choose Continue. The printer keeps printing until the page quality actually drops.

I put in a new DR630 drum and it still says "Replace Drum".

The drum counter has to be reset by hand. With the front cover open, press OK, choose Yes when "Replace Drum?" appears, then close the cover.

Can it print envelopes and legal-size paper?

Yes. The 250-sheet tray takes paper up to legal size, and the one-sheet manual feed slot takes envelopes and custom sizes from 3 × 5 in up to 8.5 × 14 in.

Can it scan or copy?

No. The HL-L2360DW is print-only. Brother's all-in-one models that share its toner, such as the MFC-L2700DW and MFC-L2740DW, add a scanner.

Can I print from my phone without a router?

Yes. It supports Wi-Fi Direct, so a phone can connect to the printer directly. It also has Ethernet and USB.

HL-L2360DW quirks worth knowing

  • Brother rates it for up to 10,000 pages a month but recommends 250 to 2,000. It is built for a home office or small team, not a busy shared printer.
  • The manual feed slot takes one sheet at a time, so feed envelopes and labels one by one rather than stacking them.
  • Faded pages late in a cartridge's life can often be fixed for a while by taking the toner out and gently rocking it side to side. If that doesn't help, the DR630 drum may need replacing.
  • It prints at up to 32 pages a minute with automatic two-sided printing, at 2400 × 600 dpi.
