Chips, Printer Messages & Installation
Installing: open the ink cartridge cover, lift out the empty cartridge and gently shake the new one before pushing it into the matching color slot until it seats. Close the cover and wait for the printer to finish checking the ink.
Non-HP supply messages: DesignJet printers display a notice when a refilled or non-HP cartridge is installed. Confirm the message on the front panel to keep printing. If a cartridge is not detected, reseat it and check the chip contacts are clean.
Printheads are separate: DesignJet printheads are replaced on their own schedule, not with each ink cartridge. If a color is missing after a new cartridge, run the printhead cleaning from the front panel.

Remanufactured vs. Compatible vs. Original
Original (OEM) cartridges are new from the printer brand and cost the most. Remanufactured cartridges, like this one, start as genuine original shells that are cleaned, refilled with high-quality ink and print-tested, so they fit like the original at a fraction of the price. Compatible cartridges are built new by a third party with their own chip. This version carries a new aftermarket chip in place of the original. Castle Ink sells remanufactured inkjet cartridges and compatible (newly manufactured) toner.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much ink is in this HP 712 black?
80 ml, the same as the original HP 712 80 ml black (3ED71A). It lasts more than twice as long as the 38 ml black.
Which printers use HP 712?
The HP DesignJet T210, T230, T250, T630, T650 and DesignJet Studio.
Does it include a printhead?
No. These printers use a separate HP 713 printhead that lasts through many ink cartridges.
Will this void my printer warranty?
No. Under the U.S. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer can't void your printer warranty just because you used a third-party or remanufactured supply. If a non-original supply directly caused damage, that specific repair might not be covered.
How long can I store it?
Store it sealed, at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, and use it within about 24 months for best results. Once opened, install it promptly.
When will my order ship?
Orders placed by 4 PM ET, Monday through Friday, ship the same business day from Long Island, NY, by USPS (2–5 business days). Expedited 1–2 day delivery is available at checkout, and shipping is free on orders over $50.
