Large-format ink is sold by volume, not page yield. HP's own figure for this class is about 20 ml per 101 A1 pages, and that includes the ink used by maintenance routines — a genuinely useful number for budgeting a small plotter.
Do not order HP 712B (3ED28A, 3ED29A) in the US. It is a separate regional black for Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Thailand and Malaysia, and it shows up in HP's worldwide spec sheets right beside the US parts.
About the HP DesignJet T210
The smallest plotter in HP's current T-series: 24-inch only, print only, no scanner. About 45 seconds per A1 page and roughly 59 A1 prints an hour, with 512 MB of memory and up to 2400 by 1200 dpi. Connectivity covers gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, dual-band Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct.
It is aimed squarely at small architecture and engineering practices that need occasional D-size output without a full production plotter. HP lists the base part number as discontinued but still sells it under 2025-Edition SKUs, and HP 712 is current, so supply is not a concern.
It shares its ink and printhead with the T230, T250, T630 and T650, and with the DesignJet Studio (Wood and Steel, 24-inch and 36-inch).

"The printer cannot detect or load the media"
A common complaint on the T200 and T600 series. Reseat the roll tightly on the spindle first — a loose roll is the usual cause, and packing the spindle wings with folded paper is a well-worn fix. Then try a different roll: transparent and unusual media can defeat the sensor outright. Then check the paper switch behind the sheet loader for trapped scraps.
Media loads but does not advance
Clean the line sensor lens. Printhead leakage deposits ink on the service-station brush, which then transfers onto the sensor. It presents like a hardware failure and usually is not.
Banding, blurriness or incomplete images
Work the documented order: printhead cleaning routine, then printhead alignment, then colour calibration for the media you actually have loaded. Replace the 3ED58A printhead only if cleaning cannot recover it. We sell HP 712 ink but not the printhead, so that comes from HP or a large-format parts supplier.
Cutter leaves a ragged edge
Check the cutter path for media debris and confirm the media type on the front panel matches the loaded roll. The cutter behaves differently on film and heavy stock, and a mismatch shows up as a poor cut rather than an error message.

If reseating the cartridge and cleaning its contacts doesn't clear it, the printhead may be failing. That was the HP Community advice for a T210 owner, who was told to inspect or replace the printhead and check warranty status. The error also blocked printhead cleaning in that case.
Will the T210 accept non-HP cartridges?
HP's T210 spec page doesn't say, but HP states that the T650, which takes the same HP 712 cartridges, blocks cartridges with non-HP chips through dynamic security. Expect the T210 to behave the same, and stick to cartridges built on original HP chips.
Can I use the 80 ml black from our office's T650?
Yes. HP lists the 80 ml HP 712 black (3ED71A) for the T210, T230, T250, T630, T650 and DesignJet Studio.
