What Ink Does the HP DesignJet T650 Use?

Quick answer: the HP DesignJet T650 uses HP 712 ink — four cartridges — plus a separate printhead. And here is the detail that catches almost everyone: the printhead is not called 712. It is the HP 713 printhead, part 3ED58A. There is no such thing as an HP 712 printhead.

The other trap is HP 711, which fits the older DesignJet T120 and T520. The cartridges look alike and get cross-listed constantly, but they are not interchangeable.

Paper loads but will not feed

Check the line sensor lens. Printhead leakage deposits ink on the service-station brush, which then transfers to the sensor and blinds it. Cleaning that lens resolves a class of feed faults that otherwise looks like a hardware failure.

Banding, line-thickness errors or blurred output

Run the printhead cleaning routine from the front panel, then a printhead alignment, then a colour calibration for the media actually loaded. If cleaning cannot recover it, the 3ED58A printhead is the part to replace.

Cutter not cutting cleanly

Check for media debris in the cutter path and confirm the media type in the driver matches what is loaded — the cutter behaves differently on film and heavy stock than on bond.
