What Ink Does the Canon MAXIFY MB2320 Use?

Quick answer: The Canon MAXIFY MB2320 uses four PGI-1200 ink tanks, or the high-yield PGI-1200XL, in black, cyan, magenta and yellow. All four are pigment inks. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured PGI-1200XL Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, plus a four-pack.

PGI-1200 also fits the MAXIFY MB2020, MB2120 and MB2720. Don't confuse it with PGI-2200, the larger tank for the MAXIFY MB5000 series and iB4120.

What Ink Cartridges Does the Canon MAXIFY MB2320 Take?

Cartridge Canon part no. Approx. yield Castle Ink option

PGI-1200XL Cyan / Magenta / Yellow 9196B001 / 9197B001 / 9198B001 ~900 pages each Cyan / Magenta / Yellow

Canon quotes the XL yields; standard yields are the figures retailers list, and some retailers list the XL cyan as high as 1,020 pages. Standard and XL tanks fit the same slots, and you can mix them. Each color is separate, so replace only the one that's empty, or buy the PGI-1200XL four-pack for a full set.

What Does PGI-1200XL Ink Cost Now?

On October 25, 2026, Staples listed the original PGI-1200XL black at $51.99 and each XL color at $27.99. Our remanufactured PGI-1200XL black is $18.95 (about 1.6¢ a page), each color is $10.95, and the four-pack is $45.95.

Our ink tanks are remanufactured Canon originals, cleaned, refilled and tested. See compatible vs. remanufactured vs. OEM for what that means. Orders placed by 4 PM ET ship the same day, and U.S. orders over $50 ship free.

Using remanufactured ink: We found no Canon firmware that blocks remanufactured PGI-1200 tanks. Canon's warranty excludes damage caused by non-Canon cartridges, but using them doesn't void the warranty under U.S. law.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the MAXIFY MB2320?

  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Open the top cover; the ink tank holder moves to the replacement position.
  3. Press the tab on the empty tank and lift it out.
  4. Unpack the new tank.
  5. Push it into the slot that matches its color until it clicks.
  6. Close the cover. The printer checks the new tank before you print.

Which Other Printers Use PGI-1200?

PGI-1200 and PGI-1200XL fit the MAXIFY MB2020, MB2120, MB2320 and MB2720. The larger PGI-2200 tanks are for the MAXIFY MB5000 series and iB4120 and won't fit.

What MB2320 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer on retailer Q&A pages, support forums and owner reviews, answered in our words.

Can I use standard PGI-1200 instead of XL?

Yes. Both sizes fit the same slots, and you can mix them.

How many pages does a standard cyan give?

About 300 pages, versus about 900 for the XL.

Will it print black only if a color runs out?

One Staples reviewer reports it won't, so keep a spare color tank on hand.

Why does the ink cost so much?

It's the most common complaint in Canon PGI-1200XL reviews. Remanufactured XL tanks cut the cost per page by roughly two-thirds.

Is the ink waterproof?

All four inks are pigment-based, which Canon says makes text smudge- and highlighter-resistant.
