What Ink Does the Canon PIXMA TR150 Use?

Quick answer: what ink does the Canon PIXMA TR150 use?

The Canon PIXMA TR150 uses two cartridges with the print head built in: one PGI-35 pigment black and one CLI-36 color (cyan, magenta, and yellow in one cartridge). There are no XL versions.

Common questions about Canon PIXMA TR150 ink

Is there an XL version of PGI-35 or CLI-36?

No. Canon makes PGI-35 and CLI-36 in one size only. If you print on the road a lot, keep a spare black in your bag; it's the cartridge most people run out of first.

What other printers use PGI-35/CLI-36 ink?

The same cartridges fit the PIXMA iP110 and iP100. If you own two of these printers, one stock of cartridges covers both.

Will other Canon cartridges fit the TR150?

No. PG-260/CL-261, PG-245/CL-246, and PG-240/CL-241 are for desktop printers and won't fit the small cartridge holder in these portable models. Always match the number printed on your current cartridge.

Are compatible or remanufactured cartridges safe for the TR150?

Yes. Quality compatible and remanufactured cartridges print like OEM, and using them doesn't void your warranty under U.S. law. The printer may show a message about a non-genuine or refilled cartridge; choose OK or Continue and print normally. How do I replace the ink in the TR150?

Turn the printer on and open the top cover; the cartridge holder moves to the replacement position. Push the empty cartridge down to unlock it and lift it out. Unpack the new cartridge, peel off the protective tape (don't touch the gold contacts or the nozzles), slide it in at a slight upward angle, and push it up until it clicks. What does support code 1686 or 1688 mean?

Code 1686 means the printer can no longer estimate how much ink is left, which is normal after a cartridge runs very low or when a refilled or remanufactured cartridge is installed. Press and hold Stop for about 5 seconds to keep printing; this turns off ink-level detection for that cartridge only. Code 1688 means the ink has run out. See Printer error codes explained.

Why are TR150 prints faded, streaky, or missing a color?

On this printer the print head is part of each cartridge, so a fresh cartridge often fixes nozzle problems. Before you replace one, run a nozzle check and one or two cleanings from the printer or the Canon driver. Can the TR150 run on a battery?

Yes. With Canon's optional LK-72 battery kit it prints without being plugged in, which is why it's popular with mobile workers.

Is the TR150 the replacement for the iP110?

Yes, and it uses the same PGI-35/CLI-36 cartridges as the PIXMA iP110, so you can move ink between them.
