Correction (October 2026): an earlier version of this guide said you lift the scanner unit to change cartridges and pull an orange cap off new ones, and it listed the MG3520 and MG3620 as PG-245/CL-246 printers. You retract the output tray and open the cover, new cartridges have protective tape, and the MG3520 and MG3620 take PG-240/CL-241.

How to Replace Ink in the Canon PIXMA TS3320
- Power the printer on, push in the paper output tray and its extension, then open the cover. (You don't lift the scanner.)
- Wait for the print head holder to slide to the replacement position.
- Push the empty cartridge down until it clicks, then pull it out.
- Peel the protective tape off the new cartridge. Insert it at a slant, color on the left and black on the right, then push it up until it snaps into place.
- Close the cover. The printer cleans the print head automatically before it prints the alignment sheet.
Troubleshooting Tips
"Ink cartridge cannot be recognized" alert: Reseat each cartridge and wipe the gold chip contacts with a lint-free cloth.
Streaky prints: From the Canon PRINT app or IJ Printer Utility, run Cleaning > Deep Cleaning. Repeat once if streaks persist.
Alignment off: After installing a new cartridge, run Print Head Alignment from the Maintenance menu.
Refilled or remanufactured cartridges: We haven't found a Canon firmware lockout on the TS3320. Canon does warn that used or refilled cartridges can clog nozzles and stop the printer from telling you when to replace them, so keep an eye on print quality.

Which slot does each cartridge go in?
Color goes in the left slot and black in the right, according to Canon's TS3300 manual.
Why did the cartridge holder move to the side and show an error while I was changing ink?
If the cover stays open for more than 10 minutes, the holder moves to the far left and the printer shows an error. Close the cover and open it again.
Can I print with only the black cartridge?
No. Both cartridges must be installed. If one runs out, Windows lets you keep printing for a while with the other, but leave the empty cartridge in place.
The lights are blinking with an error. Is it broken?
Not necessarily. Canon says a smudged encoder (timing) strip often causes it and has a TS3320/TS3322 article on cleaning it. Try that before paying for service.
How long can a cartridge stay in the printer?
Canon says to use each cartridge within six months of installing it, and not to leave the printer with a cartridge removed.
