What Ink Does the Epson Expression Premium XP-630 Use?

Quick answer: The Epson Expression Premium XP-630 uses five Epson 410 or high-capacity Epson 410XL cartridges: black, photo black, cyan, magenta and yellow. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 410XL Black, 410XL Photo Black, 410XL Cyan, 410XL Magenta, 410XL Yellow and a 410XL five-pack.

It shares these cartridges with the Expression Premium XP-640, XP-830 and XP-7100. The XP-530 and XP-635 take the same inks. In the UK and Europe, the XP-630 uses Epson 33 and 33XL cartridges instead. We couldn't confirm those work in a U.S. printer, so buy by the U.S. numbers below.

Discontinued. Epson announced the XP-630 in September 2015 at $149 and now lists it as discontinued, naming the Expression Premium XP-6100 as its replacement. In October 2026 Staples had Epson 410XL cartridges in stock, while 4inkjets showed most of its original 410XL cartridges as backordered.

Yields are Epson's ISO figures. Epson's XP-630 page doesn't give a yield for the photo black, and retailer figures disagree, so we haven't quoted one. We stock the XL size only.

Are Epson 410XL Cartridges Worth It?

Yes. The 410XL black prints about 530 pages against about 250 for the standard 410, and the XL colors about 650 against 300. On October 21, 2026, Staples listed Epson's 410XL black at $28.59 (about 5.4¢ a page) and the 410XL photo black at $34.99. 4inkjets listed the 410XL cyan at $29.99 (about 4.6¢ a page), backordered, and the standard 410 black at $26.99 (about 10.8¢ a page). Our remanufactured 410XL black is $10.99, about 2.1¢ a page, and each XL color is $9.99, about 1.5¢ a page. Our photo black is also $9.99, and the five-pack is $47.99, less than the $50.95 you would pay for all five singles.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the Epson Expression Premium XP-630?

  1. Make sure the CD/DVD tray isn't inserted, then turn the printer on.
  2. If the screen says a cartridge is expended, follow its prompt to replace it now. Otherwise, choose Ink Cartridge Replacement from the Maintenance menu.
  3. Lift the scanner unit. Push the tab to unlock the old cartridge and lift it out. Don't move the print head by hand.
  4. If you're replacing the black, shake the new cartridge gently four or five times. Unpack it and take off its cap, keeping your fingers off the marked areas.
  5. Insert the cartridge at a slight angle and press it down until it clicks. Close the scanner unit, confirm on the screen, and leave the printer on while it charges the ink.

Which Other Printers Use Epson 410 and 410XL?

The Expression Premium XP-530, XP-635, XP-640, XP-830 and XP-7100 take the same five cartridges.

What XP-630 owners ask

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in Epson's support community and owner reviews, answered in our words.

Why are there two black cartridges?

The XP-630 uses a regular black and a separate photo black. The black is the one Epson rates for documents, at about 250 pages standard or 530 as a 410XL. The photo black is the extra ink Epson adds for photo printing. Both have their own slot and are sold separately.

A cartridge isn't recognized after a firmware update.

Epson's support FAQ for the XP-630 says firmware updates can leave non-Epson cartridges unrecognized, and Epson's fix is to fit genuine cartridges. If you use remanufactured ink, avoid installing printer firmware updates unless you need a specific fix.

Why does it keep dropping off Wi-Fi?

Lost wireless connections are the most common complaint in Epson.com reviews. Run the Wi-Fi setup again from the printer's control panel, keep the printer within good range of the router, and reinstall Epson's software over the network if the computer still can't find it.

Does it have a document feeder or fax?

No. It scans and copies on a flatbed only and has no fax. It does print two-sided automatically.

XP-630 quirks worth knowing

  • It has a 2.7-inch touch panel, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct, and USB. Epson doesn't list an Ethernet port.
  • It prints directly on inkjet-printable CDs and DVDs using a disc tray.
  • Paper goes in a 100-sheet main tray or a 20-sheet photo tray, and some owners find the output tray awkward to work around.
  • Epson rates it at 13 ISO pages a minute in black and 10 in color, with automatic two-sided printing.
  • An SD card slot and PictBridge port let you print photos without a computer.
