What Ink Does the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4833 Use?

Quick answer: The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4833 uses four Epson 822 cartridges: black, cyan, magenta and yellow. The high-capacity Epson 822XL versions fit too. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 822XL Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.

The WF-4833 is a version of the WorkForce Pro WF-4830 and takes the same ink as the WF-4820, WF-4834 and WF-3820. Don't mix it up with Epson 812, which looks similar but is for the wide-format WF-7820 and WF-7840. In Europe this printer takes Epson 405 cartridges, which won't fit a U.S. model.

Is 822XL Worth It?

Yes. XL cartridges hold roughly three times the ink of the standard black. On October 15, 2026, Epson listed the 822XL black at $47.99 (about 4.4¢ a page) and each 822XL color at $36.99, and Staples had the 822XL four-pack at $158.95. Our remanufactured 822XL black is $39.95 and each color $35.95.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the Epson WF-4833?

  1. With the printer on, tap 'How to' on the ink message, or go to Maintenance, then Ink Cartridge(s) Replacement.
  2. Raise the scanner unit until it clicks; the cartridge holder moves into position.
  3. Squeeze the tab on the old cartridge and lift it straight up.
  4. Shake the new cartridge four or five times, unpack it and remove only the yellow tape, without touching the green chip.
  5. Press it in until it clicks, lower the scanner unit and tap Completed. Leave the printer on for about 90 seconds while the ink charges.

Epson says the printer is designed for Epson cartridges, and firmware updates can block non-Epson chips. If you use remanufactured cartridges, consider turning off automatic firmware updates.

Can I print in black when a color runs out?

Epson's driver lets you print temporarily with black only, but the printer will ask you to replace the empty color soon.
