What Ink Does the HP OfficeJet 4630 Use?

Correction (October 2026): an earlier version of this guide said the OfficeJet 4630 prints two-sided only manually. HP lists automatic two-sided printing as standard on this model.

Quick answer: The HP OfficeJet 4630 uses HP 61 ink cartridges: one black and one tri-color. HP refreshed the line in 2026, so you will see two sets of part numbers. The earlier cartridges are CH561WN–CH564WN; the new ones are the 61XL black C0PA4AN and the 61 tri-color C0PA5AN. Both generations fit. What Ink Cartridges Does the HP OfficeJet 4630 Take?

The OfficeJet 4630 e-All-in-One (including the 4632, 4634, 4635 and 4636) holds two cartridges:

Yields are ISO/IEC estimates at about 5% coverage. HP's own pages for the earlier cartridges are gone, and retailer listings disagree (CH563WN appears as both 430 and 480 pages), so we show the lower current figures. HP also sells the new pair as a combo pack, C0PA6AN. When shopping elsewhere, skip cartridges labeled "MICR": that magnetic ink is made for printing bank checks and costs more than you need for everyday documents.

What Is the Difference Between HP 61 and HP 61XL?

Standard and XL cartridges fit the same slot. In the earlier line, the 61XL black is listed at about 430 pages against about 170 for the standard 61 black. Does HP 61 Fit Other Printers?

Yes. HP 61 is one of HP's most widely used cartridge families. It also fits the DeskJet 1000, 1010, 1510, 2540, 3050 and 3510 series, the ENVY 4500, 5530 and 5535, and the OfficeJet 2620.

How Do I Replace the Ink in an HP OfficeJet 4630?

1. With the printer on, open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop.
2. Press down on the cartridge to release it, then pull it out.
3. Remove the tape from the new cartridge without touching the contacts or nozzles.
4. Slide it into its slot (Tri-Color left, Black right) until it snaps in.
5. Close the door and complete the alignment prompt on the display.

Why Is My OfficeJet 4630 Not Recognizing the Cartridge?

• Protective tape is still on the contacts.
• The copper contacts need a wipe with a dry, lint-free cloth.
• The cartridge is from a different family, such as HP 62 or HP 63, which look similar but will not work.
• The cartridge was enrolled in HP Instant Ink and the subscription ended.

HP changed the HP 61 lineup in 2026. What should I buy now?

Either generation fits. HP's new parts are the 61XL black C0PA4AN (about 360 pages) and the 61 tri-color C0PA5AN (about 200 pages). The earlier 61XL black CH563WN and tri-color CH564WN still work, and those are the ones we sell remanufactured.

A brand-new HP 61 says "cartridge must be replaced" after a few pages. Is it defective?

Not necessarily. In a July 2026 HP Community case on a 4630, the error cleared once the owner fully reseated the paper tray. HP's agent said a tray that isn't seated properly can interfere with the printer's internal checks.

What does error OXC4EB9343 mean, and can it be fixed?

HP's forum agent described it as a communication fault between the firmware and the printhead. Reseat and clean both cartridges, update the firmware over USB and check the carriage for obstructions. If it keeps coming back, it usually points to a main-board fault, and owners often end up replacing the printer.

Does the 4630 block non-HP or remanufactured cartridges?

The "e" in e-All-in-One refers to HP ePrint, not HP+, so there is no HP+ ink requirement on this model. We found no HP statement that the 4630 uses dynamic security. Our remanufactured 61XL cartridges reuse the original HP chip.

How do I find my exact model and product number?

The 4630 was sold under several product numbers, including B4L03A, B4L03B, B4L03C and D4J76A. The label is under the top cover or on the front panel. All of them take HP 61.

• For a budget model it is well equipped: a 35-sheet document feeder, color fax with 99 pages of memory, and automatic two-sided printing.
• The paper trays are small. The input tray holds 100 sheets and the output tray 30, and reviewers found the fold-out output support flimsy.
• HP rates it for up to 1,000 pages a month but recommends 150–600. Reviewers also found printing and scanning slow, even over USB.
• Connections are 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) and USB 2.0. There is no Ethernet port, and the 2-inch display is a mono LCD, not a touchscreen.
