What Ink Does the HP Photosmart C4480 Use?
Last Updated:Quick answer: The HP Photosmart C4480 all-in-one uses an HP 74 black cartridge and an HP 75 tri-color cartridge, or the high-yield 74XL and 75XL. It does not use HP 60, despite what some listings say. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 74XL Black, 75XL Tri-color and a 74XL + 75XL combo pack, plus standard 74 and 75.
The C4480 shares its ink with the Photosmart C4280. The later C4680 switched to HP 60. In Europe the same cartridges are sold as HP 350 and 351.

Which Other Printers Use HP 74 and 75?
The Photosmart C4280 and other Photosmart C4200, C4300, C4400 and C5500 models, plus several DeskJet D4200, D4300 and OfficeJet J5700 and J6400 printers.
What Photosmart C4480 owners ask
These are the questions that come up most for this printer in HP's support community and owner reviews, answered in our words.
Why does it say "incompatible ink cartridge"?
Most often the cartridge is the wrong number (an HP 60 or 61 won't fit) or the contacts aren't touching. Check you have HP 74 or 75, reseat it and wipe the copper contacts with a dry lint-free cloth.
Is there a Windows 11 driver?
HP has ended support for the C4400 series and doesn't list a Windows 11 package. Windows' built-in driver often prints over USB, but scanning may need a third-party app.
Does it have Wi-Fi?
No. The C4480 connects by USB only.
Can I print photos straight from a memory card?
Yes. It has slots for Memory Stick, SD/MMC/SDHC and xD cards and a small LCD for choosing photos.
Photosmart C4480 quirks worth knowing
- HP launched it in 2008 at $99.99; Icecat lists an end-of-life date of June 2011.
- HP rated it at up to 30 pages a minute in draft mode; normal mode is about 9 black and 5 color.
- It prints, copies and scans; there's no fax, document feeder or automatic two-sided printing.
- The input tray holds 100 sheets, and HP rated it for up to 1,000 pages a month.
