What Ink Does the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4630 Use?

Quick answer: the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4630 uses Epson 786 ink, or the high-capacity 786XL. Four individual DURABrite Ultra pigment cartridges.

The mistake that dominates this model is Epson 676XL, and it is worth being blunt about it: 676XL fits the previous WorkForce Pro generation — the WP-4010, WP-4020, WP-4520, WP-4530, WP-4540 and their siblings. It does not fit a WF-4630. Two other numbers get cross-listed too: 788XXL belongs to the WF-5110, WF-5190, WF-5620 and WF-5690, and 252XL belongs to the WF-3620, WF-3640 and the WF-7000 series.

Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4630 ink at a glance

Those are Epson's own ISO figures from its specification sheet for this printer. The XL step is large — nearly three times the black — which on an office machine is the difference between changing cartridges monthly and quarterly.

You will see these part numbers with and without the trailing -S. That suffix just denotes the single-cartridge retail pack; Epson's own support documentation uses the bare numbers. Both are genuine.

Is there an XXL tier?

Effectively no, and Epson's own documentation disagrees with itself here, so here is the honest position. Epson's User's Guide and specification sheet for the WF-4630 both list only 786 and 786XL. Epson's 788XXL product page lists compatibility as the WF-5110, WF-5190, WF-5620 and WF-5690 — not this printer. Only Epson's FAQ page mentions an XXL row, and that reads like a template block shared across the WF-4000 and WF-5000 families. Our advice: treat 786XL as the top tier for a WF-4630 and do not order 788XXL for it.

Don't forget the maintenance box

This printer has a second consumable people forget until it stops them: the T6710 maintenance box (retail part T671000), which stores ink flushed out during head cleaning. When it fills, the printer halts until it is replaced. It is user-replaceable and chipped, so it must be a new box — there is no reset.

Be careful ordering it: T6711 is a different box, for the WF-3620, WF-7110, WF-7610 and WF-7720. One digit apart, and cross-listed constantly — often by the same sellers who confuse 676XL with 786XL, so the two mistakes travel together.

About the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-4630

A four-in-one office machine: print, scan, copy and fax at 20 ISO ppm in both black and colour, dropping to 11 ppm two-sided. It has automatic duplex printing plus automatic two-sided copy, scan and fax, and a 35-sheet ADF with genuine duplex scanning — not flip-and-rescan.

Epson's documented order: nozzle check, head cleaning, confirm the paper type setting matches what is loaded, confirm the printable side is up, disable High Speed in the driver, then print head alignment. Run cleaning cycles in small batches with rest between — each one dumps ink into the maintenance box.

The printer stops until you fit a new T6710. Not a fault, just a consumable — but worth having one on the shelf if you print steadily.

This is the ink pads, and it is a different thing from the maintenance box — swapping the box will not clear it. Epson's documented path is contacting Epson service or a certified technician. Epson notes most users never see this message under normal use.
