Quick answer: The HP DeskJet 3637 All-in-One uses two HP 63 cartridges: one black and one tri-color. The high-yield HP 63XL versions are rated for about 430 pages (black) and 300 pages (tri-color) on HP's current listings. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 63XL Black, 63XL Tri-color and a 63XL 2-pack.

HP has recently merged its 63 and 65 cartridges into a single "HP 63/65" line (for example, B7RT2AN tri-color and B7RT5AN 63XL/65XL black). HP says compatibility is unchanged, so those fit the 3637 too. What doesn't fit is HP 302: that is the European version of this cartridge and it is region-locked.

Yields are HP's ISO estimates; HP has lowered the published 63 and 63XL figures over the years. The tri-color goes in the left slot and the black in the right. If you print checks, Castle Ink also carries a 63XL MICR black.

Is HP 63XL Worth It?

Yes. The 63XL black holds about two and a half times the ink of the standard 63, and the XL tri-color about twice as much. HP's 63XL/65XL black was $46.99 at Staples on October 12, 2026, roughly 15¢ a page. Our remanufactured 63XL black is $23.49 (about 5.5¢ a page) and the tri-color $24.49 (about 8.2¢ a page), or buy both in the 2-pack for $45.95. The 3637 is not an HP+ printer, so it isn't locked to original HP ink.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the HP DeskJet 3637?

With the printer on, close the output tray extender and rotate the output tray clockwise into the printer.
Open the front door, then the cartridge access door, and wait for the carriage to move to the center.
Press down on the empty cartridge to release it and pull it out (tri-color on the left, black on the right).
Pull the tape off the new cartridge by its tab without touching the contacts, then slide it into its slot until it clicks.
Close the cartridge door and front door, reopen the output tray, and run alignment when the printer asks.

HP 63 in the U.S. HP 302 is the European and U.K. version of the same cartridge, and it is region-locked, so it won't work in a U.S. DeskJet 3637.

Will the new HP 63/65 cartridges work?

Yes. HP says the combined 63/65 cartridges keep the same printer compatibility as the 63 and 65 they replace, and retailers list the 3630 series as compatible.

Can I print with just the black cartridge?

Yes. Take the empty tri-color out and the printer switches to single-cartridge mode automatically. Printing may be slower, and color comes out in shades of gray.

Why are the Ink Alert and Resume lights blinking?
