What Ink Does the HP DeskJet F4580 Use?

Quick answer: The HP DeskJet F4580 All-in-One uses two HP 60 cartridges: one black and one tri-color. The high-yield HP 60XL versions fit too. Castle Ink stocks remanufactured 60XL Black, 60XL Tri-color, standard 60 Black and 60 Tri-color, and a 60 2-pack.

The F4580 is the wireless model of HP's F4500 series. It takes the same ink as the DeskJet F4480, DeskJet F4280 and Photosmart C4780. Watch the region: the European F4580 (CB755B) takes HP 300 and 300XL cartridges, which won't fit a U.S. printer.

Buy by the HP 60 number. Staples titles some of these "HP 60/901", but HP 901 is a different family. One 4inkjets listing calls CC641WN a 61XL; it's the HP 60XL black. The 60XL tri-color yield is the figure for its European twin.

Is HP 60XL Worth It?

Yes. The 60XL black prints three times as many pages as the standard 60. On October 24, 2026, Staples listed HP's 60XL black at $83.99 (about 14¢ a page), the standard 60 black at $32.99 (about 16.5¢ a page), the 60 tri-color at $42.99 (about 26¢ a page) and the 60 2-pack at $71.99. We couldn't find an original 60XL tri-color at Staples. Our remanufactured 60XL black is $18.99 (about 3.2¢ a page) and the 60XL tri-color $20.99 (about 4.8¢ a page), or $34.95 for the standard 60 2-pack.

How Do I Replace the Ink in the HP DeskJet F4580?

  1. Turn the printer on and open the front cartridge door. Wait for the carriage to move to the center and stop.
  2. Push down lightly on the old cartridge to release it, then pull it out.
  3. Unpack the new cartridge and pull off the pink tape over the nozzles. Don't touch the copper contacts or nozzles.
  4. Slide the cartridge into its slot, nozzles first (tri-color on the left, black on the right), and push forward until it snaps in.
  5. Close the door and print the alignment page when asked. Then scan it on the glass to finish.

These are the questions that come up most for this printer in HP's support community and owner reviews, answered in our words.

Does it fax or print two-sided automatically?

No. There's no fax and no automatic two-sided printing.
