Is TN227 Worth It?

Yes. TN227 roughly doubles the black pages and nearly doubles the colors. On October 14, 2026, Brother listed genuine TN227BK at $96.29 (about 3.2¢ a page), TN227C at $123.49 and the DR223CL drum at $160.29. Our compatible TN227 cartridges are $69.95 each (about 2.3¢ a page black, 3¢ per color), the 4-pack is $249.95 and the DR223CL is $69.95.

Third-party toner. Brother recommends genuine toner and says its warranty doesn't cover damage caused by other supplies. In 2025 Brother publicly denied that its firmware blocks third-party toner, after claims that it did.

How Do I Replace the Toner in the Brother MFC-L3710CW?

Open the top cover and let the inside cool for a few minutes.
Lift out the toner-and-drum assembly for the color shown on the screen.
Push down the green lever and remove the old toner from the drum.
Unpack the new toner, remove its cover and push it into the drum until it clicks.
Slide the green tab to clean the corona wire, return it home, refit the assembly in its matching slot and close the cover.

Not automatically. The MFC-L3710CW has no duplex for printing, copying or scanning; pages are flipped by hand.

Can I keep printing black when a color runs out?

Brother says the printer can continue in black, but the driver's color setting has to be changed to Mono; otherwise it waits for the empty color.

It still says No Toner after I put in a new cartridge. Why?

Reseat the cartridge in the drum until it clicks and check the protective cover is off. Brother's support notes the printer runs a genuine-cartridge check, so a faulty compatible chip can also cause it.

Does it have Ethernet?

No. It connects by Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct or USB.
